2020 Thanksgiving Basket Brigade is in full swing at Azad's Martial Arts Center now. This program has helped over 35,000 people in the Butte County since its inception 29 years ago! Each year Basket Brigade delivers a gift basket of complete Thanksgiving meals to over 200 local families. Unlike the past, this year due to COVID-19 we will not be needing assistance in putting the baskets together. Here is how you can help:... 1. Let us know if you know of a family that legitimately needs assistance this year. They MUST have school age kids; be a first time recipient of the basket; and live in the Chico area, and/or 2. You may sponsor as many families as you wish by donating funds to the cause. It takes only $40 to help one family, and/or 3. Sign up to be a driver to deliver a dinner or two to the recipients address on Tuesday, November 24th. Please SHARE this post with your friends and family so we can reach and assist those in real need in our community especially during these very tough times. Thank you!

During rescue work along with my NVADG Evac team partner we were flagged down by the North Lake Tahoe fire fighters telling us about a dog in trouble in the middle of fire area. He wasn’t on our list. So I made an executive decision to go and help the dog. Upon arrival we found him trying to survive on a bag of trash while everything around him was still on fire. He was scared, hungry and very alert. He wasn’t happy to see us at first entering his territory. But as soon as he... saw we meant well he became excited and happy to see us. We didn’t have crates big enough for him. So we modified his own crate and took him in to a NVADG shelter. He was super happy to be safe. A few days later I was a shelter lead at Cal Oak animal shelter when he was by luck transferred over to us. The minute he saw me he started jumping up AMS down and going silly crazy! He made a few of our volunteers shed a few tears of joy. Just like other animals at NVADG animal shelter he received first class treatment, care and love. I made sure I walked him as often as I could personally in addition to our great volunteers dog walking time. I found his owner who was moved out of town. He was so happy to know that his dog is alive and being taken care of. I kept in touch with the owner hoping to reunited them. Yesterday I went to the shelter and found the dog still there. He is one of the few pets whose owners aren’t coming back for them! I would certainly adopt him in a heart beat. However, my own pet wouldn’t appreciate it at all. Benji is a wonderful Alaskan Husky with multicolor eyes. Clean, super friendly, beautiful and strong. He will make an amazing pet for a family. The pictures show Benji from the moment of trust in t he midst of a crazy wildfire a few weeks ago to now. Please share this post with your friends So we can find the right home for Benji! Thank you all

Something written by a friend: I am a Martial Arts Instructor. They asked me one day: what is your profession? And I said, ' I teach martial arts. He looked at me with strange expression, laughed and said gently: what an easy profession!... I, with my head high, said firmly: I don't work in a company, but in a space where I promote knowledge and discipline in children, young people and adults. I don't discriminate, because everyone is capable and welcome. I'm not a boss, but others see me as a leader which I try to do by example.. I'm not a psychologist, but I endeavor to help everyone believe in themselves. I'm not a doctor, but I can diagnose needs and offer help. I don't have normal work hours, because while you watch tv or sleep, I'm planning for everyone to have better learning. I'm not an architect, but I help build dreams and values. I don't scold anyone. I am firm but fair and with compassion I teach them the way to succeed in difficult times of life. I don't use clay, but mold virtues. It wasn't easy to get here, it wasn't just years of practice. It was days of the week and weekends without family, skills, hard training and injuries. All this to become alone in a mirror... someone who is also fragile, who also learns, who makes mistakes and suffers. I'm an instructor - I don't just teach, I share a little of my life, my knowledge and myself. - author unknown
