We passed and implemented a historic Data Resolution! Together with OUSD's Office of Equity, AYPAL recently implemented a Disaggregated Data Resolution we originally passed in 2016, expanding the scope of the resolution to apply to even more student groups! This is the first resolution of its kind to disaggregate data for Asian Pacific Islander, LatinX, and African Immigrant students! There is also an increase of major categories students can identify as when they enroll, eli...minating several situations where they previously had to mark themselves as "Other". Check out this student produced video from KDOL for more info! New enrollment forms are due February 8th, so don’t forget to enroll on time to get your first choice schools! We hope this video offers an example of what other school districts and city's everywhere can do to increase the visibility of underrepresented students and communities. #WeHere History of the Resolution: Disaggregated Data means visibility for groups that are often overlooked. In the spring of 2016, AYPAL: Building API Community Power, Banteay Srei, and Asian Health Services Youth Program, advocated and passed Oakland's first ever Disaggregated Data Resolution for Asian and Pacific Islander students with support from School Board Member Aimee Eng. The original purpose of passing the resolution was to show clear data on what is happening in all Asian and Pacific Islander students enrolled in Oakland Unified, especially those with less enrollment numbers such as Southeast Asian youth. The resolution also added "Mien" and "Tongan" as categories students can identify as, categories that were missing from enrollment forms. After two years of advocacy from AYPAL with key ally support for OUSD's Office Of Equity, we are excited to announce the school district has moved to disaggregate data for more students, including the LatinX, and African Immigrant communities on top of the original agreement for API students! This is an unprecedented resolution. As part of the implementation process, OUSD has also added Yemeni and Mam as major categories of students, along with additional groups, who can identify with their ethnicity starting with this year’s enrollment process closing on February 8th! As a community, our hope is that this resolution will lead to increased visibility for underrepresented ethnicities so that we can better support our most struggling students. Youth from each of the impacted communities were interviewed about what this resolution means to them, check it out in the video! Thank you to the OUSD Office of Equity and the students at KDOL for helping to produce this student produced film! #WeHere www.aypal.org
