Just as each IEP must be individually tailored to each child's needs, no two special eduction cases are the same. That's why I adjust my approach to each case to meet the individual needs of the student and the parents.
Tell your story -- the story of how you advocated for your child to get services; the story of your child's strengths and triumphs; the story of how you dealt with the ups and downs of being a parent to a child with special needs. You may not think so, but so many other parents feel the same way but are to afraid to say anything. Speak up -- your story will become someone else's survival guide.
Approximately 20% of the population struggles with mental health, yet only about half actually seek treatment. Unfortunately, there is still a stigma surrounding mental health. Here's a few things you can do to break the stigma: Educate yourself about the various types of mental illness beyond the stereotypes;... Respect others who may see the world differently from you; you don't know what others are struggling with; Accept others for who they are.

Falling leaves & pumpkin spice...I love Fall!
Have you been told that your child can't have a learning disability because she is too smart? Has your child been denied an IEP you know she needs because she is performing at grade level? Twice exceptional kiddos -- those who are gifted and also have a learning disability -- often fly under the radar because they use their strengths to mask their struggles. Gifted children need services and accommodations too!
