Something special is happening! Only the cutest experiment ever! We took a chance incubating our chickens’ eggs for the first time now that we have a second rooster who seems to know what he is doing a bit better than our bantam rooster, Cowboy. It’s working! Our first chick hatched today thanks to Katie’s hard work and attentive efforts with the incubator. Little chick is so tired but soooo cute. Welcome, little gremlin!!

Fun is messy! :-/ Forrest the white necked raven is busy with his enrichment and keeping his trainers on their toes for our project at the Memphis Zoo this season. It's important to keep corvids like ravens, crows, and jays working hard, and during the February Snowpocalypse, we could only let him out for short bursts of time to make sure he stayed safe in the freezing temps! He gets a varied diet, with the produce hidden in items for him to work for when he isn't out trainin...g. WELL! He used this time to cache, or hide, his less favorite items for later, taking extreme care to cover them with certain items. Lots of different animals will cache their extra food, like ravens do. Squirrels famously cache their stores, as do bears, and even great horned owls! They will even take extreme are in many circumstances to ensure that other conspecifics aren't watching that would conceivably rob them of their bounty. Ravens can remember where their caches are for a few months! Better than me trying to find my coffee cup, keys, phone, mask, parking spot....

But with that can bring long-term effects that we need to be aware in order to have a successful relationship with our parrots. Read on to learn all about how to go about establishing guidance when it comes to cuddle time with our parrots https://avian-behavior.org/the-dangers-in-over-cuddling-ba/

We are loving all of the positive feedback we have received on our most recent podcast episode, and it's all about traditional and non-traditional routes into the animal care and science industry.
