How can the 8-Limb Path bring happiness? In Master Patañjali’s first yoga sutra he writes in Sanskrit Atha yoganushasanam, which means now begins the instruction of yoga. I will explain to you how divine concentration made possible by following the 8-Limb Path can help you rediscover the happiness that intrinsically lives within you. Life is multidimensional and challenging, finding one’s true happiness within the chaos is an art. I believe nothing is perfect besides for F...Continue reading

APRIL 2018 Jivamukti Yoga Focus of the Month, "Tad ev-artha-mtra-nirbhsam sva-rpa-snyam iva samdhih," PYS III. 3 translates to, through the power of fixating suggestion on a chosen object the object alone shines forth, and there is undistracted identification with it. This trance is called Samadhi or same as the highest. David Life, cofounder of the Jivamukti Yoga Method, describes that Siddhi is a Sanskrit noun often translated as power but more exactly means ...Continue reading

Jivamukti Yoga January 2018 in sanskrit yogis say, "atha yoga-anuasanam," ( Yoga Sutras of Patanjali ) which translates to now this is yoga as I have observed it in the natural world. WHAT IS REAL, WHAT IS TRUE? Ken Wilber writes in his book titled 'Trump and a Post-Truth World': If there is one line that summarizes the message of virtually all of the truly prominent postmodern writers, it is that there is no truth. Truth, rather was a social construction, and what an...ybody actually called truth was simply what some culture somewhere had managed to convince its members was truth: but there was no actually existing, given, real thing called ‘truth.’ Many people are conditioned to think that what is on TV is true. So I will go further than Ken Wilber statement and assert that mass media tv and journalism serves the agendas of their owners and their controllers - i.e. if you scratch my back I'll scratch yours. Always, look deeper than the surface of what you are being told. As Marcus Aurelius said, "Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is perspective, not truth." Ken Wilber’s analysis of the recent U.S. presidential election stems from his 'Integral Evolutionary Theory'. Wilber hopes to move us beyond the reactivity of the bi-party political spectrum and offer a broader perspective. He suggests that Trump's victory indicates that now is the time for a "evolutionary self-correction (!)" The hyper-sensitive political correctness and the polarizing news media systems stir the pot (often manifesting misinformation and drama), which is great for ratings. David Life, my teacher and cofounder of Jivamukti Yoga, goes on to describe the meaning he derived from Wilber's book. Life asserts that we need growth hierarchies because they enact as, "the basis for growth and development as they transcend and include or differentiate and integrate. Each stage of the growth process goes beyond (or transcends) the previous stage but also includes or enfolds it, and it does so by differentiating and integrating it. For our future growth and development, we need to differentiate and integrate the teachings." For this months essay I included a screenshot image of the "Art As Activism, Activism as Art," workshop at the Whitney Museum of American Art because I feel that the creation of art, art activism and philosophy are powerful mediums in which to explore truth

atha yognusanam, atha yognusanam, atha yognusanam Translates to now this is yoga as I have perceived it in the natural world. Jivamukti Yoga NYC September 2017 focus of the month. In Patanjali's first sutra, he speaks directly to those of us who are fed up with things as they are. Everyone identifies with a different story about the shape that being fed up takes for them. At a certain point in life we take inventory of how much is great or what ...is manifesting and how much is suffering. Most people are not there; they’re not quite willing to let go of the old model. Subconsciously, some people enjoy their suffering and identify with it which perpetuates the disfunction and self sabotage of their life. They’re not at that point where they’re fed-up to let go of what does not serve them. For sure I know it's not easy to courageously redefine a stronger life aligned with an authentic purpose; however Patanjali's sutra guides us. Atha means now. But it’s more than just now; it means now in terms of hereafter, or going forward. The word shasanam can be understood as a set of rules, a discipline and set of instructions for what we’re supposed to do next. The word anu means after or following. So the yoga sutra implies that this teaching is best understood NOW. We have become enculturated and neuroiticized to our own pre-programmed thinking patterns. Neuroticism is characterized by distressing thoughts and worrisome feelings that are disproportionate to the actual circumstances of a person’s life. Identify with your immortality superpower rather than the heartbreak of mortality. The sutra encourages us that NOW is the time to let go and connect to the natural flow of wisdom and purity. You are powerful Cofounder of Jivamukti yoga, David Life, describes as we move through the difficulties in our practice we understand that this encounter IS a blessed moment and an opportunity. It is not a fail, but a chance to reflect on what separates us from each other, the nature of suffering in our lives, the role that prejudices and fixations play in our lives, etc., and just let them go. It can happen very quickly, in just an instant, but it can also take some time; it’s not easy to shed a carefully constructed armor. The great teacher Dharma Mittra likes to say, Get mad and do it!
