2021 is bringing some great news.... We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Ann Sura is back at Auburn Naturopathic Medicine beginning January, 2021! As many of you know, Dr. Ann worked with us for 4 years and was a huge asset to the office and to her patients. She has had her own practice up in Lake Tahoe for many years and was working both here and at her office. As you can imagine it, got to be a bit much so moving forward, she has decided to only have patient visits via telemedicine through our office. While Dr. Ann see’s patients with all complaints from cough/cold/flu to chronic illnesses like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, her passion is Functional Neuro-Endocrinology with an emphasis on women’s health care. Our office has "Hollywood's best known secret to youth".... The Vampire Facial! We are thrilled to introduce a brand new service to our office called a PRP facial (platlet rich plasma, also know as, The Vampire Facial) Our very own Dr. Chelsea Azarcon is offering this exclusive service right here in Auburn. Here are some facts on this wonderful service: 1. What is a PRP facial? ... PRP stands for platelet rich plasma. Sometimes called the vampire facial, it is a facial that combines dermabrasion and application of your own platelets into a procedure that helps reverse scarring, reduce wrinkles, sun spots and stretch marks, and improve skin texture. 2. How Does It Work? We start by drawing blood, then separating out platelets. Platelets are beneficial because they release growth factors, that stimulate your body’s own healing cascade and cause surrounding cells to repair damaged tissue. The dermabrasion induces small injuries that help break up scar tissue and further stimulate the healing cascade while the platelets provide concentrated growth factors for healing. 3. How long until I see results? The first 4 days after the procedure are known as the inflammation phase. During this phase, the immune system responds by cleaning up damaged tissue . Day 4 through week 3 comprises the proliferative phase, promoting formation of new tissue. After week 3, the skin enters a stage called remodeling in which it changes its structure to fill wounds, make new firming collagen, and improve skin tone. This process can occur for up to 2 years after the initial facial, which means results continue to self generate and are permanent. It generally takes 6-8 weeks to see best results from a facial. 4. How often can I get one? PRP facials are recommended 6-8 weeks apart so that new inflammation is not introduced while the skin is still repairing. Three facials are recommended for maximum results. Some skin, such as that with extensive wrinkling and scarring, can do increased treatments ( up to 6). 5. What is the procedure like? Does it Hurt? A numbing cream is applied prior to the procedure to increase tolerance to dermabrasion. Blood is then drawn and prepared. The facial itself consists of rounds of topical application of platelets followed by micro-needling, in which tiny needles puncture the skin. The procedure is generally not painful but you may experience a sensation of pressure during the dermabrasion portion. 6. What are the side effects? Skin appears red and flushed after the procedure, similar to a sunburn for the first 24 hours following the procedure. It may feel sensitive for a few hours after the treatment. 7. What is the cost for a facial? One facial takes about 60-90 minutes and is $550. You may add on your neck and décolletage for $50 extra.
