It was an Alumni Day like no other! Huge thanks to all of those who came out on Friday to say a virtual hello to former classmates and teachers and to serve on informational panels for our current students. After our campus retrospective panel, a boarding student commented at lunch how great it was to hear about early days at Athenian and asked if we could start Sunday BBQ's again!

The Athenian parent community came through for alum and elementary school teacher, Melissa Barry Hansen '85, via a book donation effort coordinated with alumni parent Susan Reckers of Rakestraw Books. "Thank you so much for your kind book donations to the 5th grade class at Bella Vista Elementary School in Oakland," Melissa wrote in a letter. "Virtual learning has been a challenge for the students. Having these wonderful books has been so uplifting." Students also wrote joyfu...l testimonials: "I read the whole Spy Kids box over the holiday."-Ariel "Reading the Spy Kids books is fun. I think I want to be a CIA guy"-Jai Le "When I was done reading the 5 books, I gave them to my cousin to read! Mrs. Hansen says she will let me read three more! They are just like candy!"-Khloe Thank you, Athenian community, for coming through in support of these students and in support of one of our alums!
Congrats to former Head of School Steve Davenport, whose novel, The Encampment, was named as a Favorite Indie Book of 2020 by Kirkus Reviews! Kirkus called the novel, which is set at a prestigious girls' boarding school, "a thoughtful and compelling account of the responsibilities that come with privilege."
