Master Schreiber's ATA Martial Arts Leadership Academy

Happy New Year! This is ordinarily a festive time, when we look back fondly on the year that has just ended and commit ourselves to new goals for the year ahead. Of course, 2020 was not an ordinary year. For many of us, it was a year of loss: Lost lives, lost livelihoods, lost educational and social opportunities for our kids. So maybe the best that can be said for 2020 is that it's finally over. And I feel fairly confident predicting that 2021 will be better. With COVID vacc...ines on the horizon, we can begin to look forward to a return to life as we used to know it--and training as we used to do it. Remember what it felt like to spar, to practice self-defense drills, and to hold targets for your partners? You'll be doing all of those things again sometime this year. So, after spending most of 2020 focused on getting from one day to the next, let's begin once again to make plans and set goals. Here's what we have on the agenda here at our academy in the coming weeks: 1. New Year Fitness Bootcamp (Saturday, Jan. 9 at 2:15 pm) - This is a free workout in our parking lot for parents and students, to welcome you back from the winter break and help you kickstart your fitness goals. It will be taught by 4th degree black belt Kaitlyn Kolybakos. No martial arts experience is necessary! Visit www.bay-ata.com/bootcamp to reserve your spot 2. Parents Train Free for a Month - Looking for a way to get active in 2021? Try our classes for free! Start anytime in January and train for 30 days at no cost. If you want a uniform, we'll give it to you for 50% off. There's no obligation to train beyond that month, but if you do decide to continue then we'll have a special discount for you. Talk to Kristine to get started! 3. 8th Degree Black Belt Testing (Saturday, Jan. 16 at 8:30 am) - I will be testing for 8th degree, and I would be honored to have you there as virtual spectators. 8TH DEGREE TESTING UPDATE Dear Students and Parents, I will be testing for 8th degree black belt soon, and I would be honored to have you present (virtually) as spectators.... The testing will be Saturday, January 16 at 8:30 am. It will be streamed live right here on our Facebook page. I will be in our academy performing via Zoom for Grand Master MK Lee and the other judges at ATA Headquarters. The ATA Masters' Council has established specific procedures for this testing, to respond to the safety challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. My testing will consist of the following items: Chuljoon (7th degree black belt form) Long-range jahng bong (bo staff) form Board breaking To make the testing even more meaningful, I have chosen to prepare an additional demonstration once the formal testing is complete. After Grand Master MK Lee dismisses me, I will remain on video on our Facebook page so I can perform 11 additional weapon forms for my instructor, Chief Master Dan Thor. Because this testing might not end until around 10 am, we will not have our 9:30 am Leadership class on that day. Thank you for your support and encouragement. I look forward to seeing you all soon.
