Most of us in North America live on this land as occupiers. I know for many of us, the fantasy of the US is built into our narratives- "give us your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free" and many of us only exist becasue our families fled certian death elsewhere and landed on these shores. But just becasue my family didnt arrive on the Mayflower, doesnt erase the truth that this land was stolen from others who have been continously oppressed, massac...red, and denied since the arrival of European colonizers. Indigenous people stewarded this land and lived in harmony with it. They are not a cute HS sports team mascot or remote historical figure. I believe in supporting Indigenous communities financially & politically, and finding out what they want and need from us.We have so much to learn about living sustainably from them if its not too late. I challenge you to learn and say the name of the people whose land you live on currently and put that in a comment below. I live in occupied Gabrielino/ Tongva/Fernandeno/ Tataviam band of the Mission Indians' land. Today is National Women's Health + Fitness Day I consistently work out and have since my 20's. I can honestly tell you it is the single most important thing I do for my mental, physical and spiritual well-being. If I had to pick one thing for you to do to improve YOUR life, it would be to find a form of movement you enjoy and DO IT! Dance, walk, run, lift weights, box, do yoga, Tai Chi, or Qhi Gong. increase your heart rate circulate that blood flow and build muscle and bone..., release endorphins, gain flexibility, strength, and confidence. Just do it and you will reap the many benefits. xo sgl #AskDrSuzanne #WomensHealth #IntegrativeHealth #NormalizeMenopause #IntegrativeMedicine #biglove #nationalwomenshealthday #health #yoga #taichi #walk

Just because the fight to maintain abortion rights may have fallen off your timeline, it doesn't mean it's no longer relevant. Join the many people who will march to defend the right to accessible and safe abortion care around the nation OR host your own local event. If you are in Los Angeles, look for me in my T-shirt purchased from Deborah Copaken (link in my bio!) All proceeds go to texas defense funds @TeaFund and help to destigmatize abortion care. By wearing this T-shi...rt- whether or not you have had an abortion, you absolutely know someone who has- even if they never shared this fact. According to the Guttmacher Institute in 2017, over 860K abortions were performed- 13.5 /1000 women aged 15-44 years old, or 18.4/100 pregnancies. #AskDrSuzanne #WomensHealth #IntegrativeHealth #NormalizeMenopause #IntegrativeMedicine #biglove #abortion #abortionrights #abortionishealthcare #abortioncareishealthcare #abortioncare

In 2010, my beautiful cousin Alexa Rose was diagnosed with a brain tumor just as she turned 3 years old. Her mom, my cousin who really is my sister, and our family studied, prayed, sought out the best care, and raised funds to support the research and care of all kids who get brain tumors. Alexa Rose passed to the next realm in 2017 just as she would have turned 10. Her life and the way my family, in particular, her Mother @jgilbergweiss responded (to stretch, learn, grow, de...velop resilience, empathy, and self-care) continues to inspire us all. Pediatric brain tumors are the most commonly diagnosed solid tumors in kids and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in kids. Between 1- 5/ 100,000 kids will develop a brain tumor and the highest rates are found in the US. Please support families who are undergoing care for this horrible disease by donating to @love_never_ends_alexa (Link in my bio!) www.loveneverends.net #AskDrSuzanne #WomensHealth #IntegrativeHealth #NormalizeMenopause #IntegrativeMedicine #biglove #earlydetection #cancersurvivor #advocate #ovariancancer #ovariancancerawareness

Tonight is Kol Nidre (which means "All Vows" in Aramaic). For all the vows we made in the past year, but didn't deliver on, tonight's prayer service officially annuls them. We start Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement) with a clean slate and a refreshed heart. If we acknowledge that we missed the mark, we can go forward with renewed spirit into the new year. Find rituals for Yom Kippur in our Tishrei Moon Manual: https://www.atthewellproject.com/moon-manuals-landing-page

Fasting is all the rage in health and fitness circles, but my people, and many other traditional cultures, have used fasting as a means of spiritual cleansing for millenia. This year counts 5782 years according to our tradition. To those who observe, to those who are interested I wish you an easy fast and may you be written for another year of life. #yomkippur #AskDrSuzanne #WomensHealth #IntegrativeHealth #NormalizeMenopause #IntegrativeMedicine #spirituality #millenials #traditionalculture #fasting #quotes

#SundayReflection @theslowfactory posted this great visual a few days ago. It’s a great reminder of the fact that we did NOT wake up to a new world on Wednesday. We woke up to a new administration. Racism and social injustice are still alive and well. And we can’t have unity without justice and equity. Personally, I feel my empathy has deepened. And we cannot afford to take a break or rest until we have JUSTICE and EQUITY for all!!! Our BIPOC brothers and sisters never get... a rest from being oppressed do they? Toxicity still prevails unless we work to dismantle it. Thank you @theslowfactory for this great visual and information on your post! . . . . . #askdrsuzanne #racism #socialinjustice #unity #justice #equity #bidenharris2020 #newpresident #racisminamerica #bipoc

Growing up and learning about Dr. Martin Luther King gave me and many other Americans a sense of pride and warmth. It’s important to note, however, that when Dr. King started to organize, speak and fight against white supremacy he was reviled amongst a large number of white people. His challenging of the silence of those intentionally AND unintentionally upholding oppression and killing of black Americans was seen as treasonous and shocking. As we experience the events of the... last summer’s social uprisings and last weeks seditious insurrection in our nations capital, we can look back as we look forward. Because of the inappropriate comparisons being made between the outrageous attack at the capitol and the BLM protests in the summer, apparently this needs to be stated clearly and directly: There IS a difference in speech and actions - even those that appear violent- however much they frighten, threaten and challenge norms- that are based in a demand for equal treatment, love of ALL humanity and social justice AS OPPOSED TO speech and violence aimed to maintaining oppression, inequality and based in hate. BLM, MLK and the summer of freedom demands are NOT the same as desperate attempts at upholding white supremacy and the intentional dismantling of democracy. Social change movements that are based in love should always be what we strive for and that is very different from attempts to maintain hate.

In the 2+ decades of practicing medicine & identifying as an "integrative medicine" doctor (a doctor who combines the use of conventional medicine + surgery with traditional, herbal, lifestyle & holistic medicine), I've learned a lot. Today, as the US faces another impeachment of the sitting president, uncertainty, chaos, pain, fear, rage and sadness, I, too, am experiencing major personal upheaval. My mother passed 10 days ago and my former mother-in-law- my children's' othe...r grandmother- died from complications of COVID 19 this past weekend. I want to remind you of a few things: 1- I'm not a fan of labels, but credentials, education, experience matter. Let's not forget that we are still in the midst of a dangerous and spreading pandemic. If you are uncertain who you should listen to - LISTEN TO THE EXPERTS- here are a few I respect: @daniellebelardomd @deplatfromdisease @wokedoctors @stacydelin_md @drlaurenpowell For trusted news: @Jessicayellin 2- Ends are also beginnings. As our family has lost its matriarchs, it is clearly my time to step in and up into my own power and wisdom and to share this with all of you. We NEED grounded loving + logic now more than ever 3- Set intentions that resonate. Every year I pull cards to display on my meditation table- they are my messages, affirmations and reminders to myself. This year, mine include "Be" and "Rise in power" What are yours? 4- Take care of yourself and others - I harp on this a lot but, double down on these practices NOW 5- Integration comes from the word integrity: According to the Oxford dictionary- The state of being whole and undivided, but also the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles. I choose Integrative medicine because it embodies all of this- it is not "either, or". It is "Yes, and". So let's continue to think critically but keep our hearts open. Stay safe, wear your mask AND take vitamin D. Wash your hands AND eat well. Love your neighbor AND yourself. See more

My mother, my children’s Ommie passed away on New Year’s Day after a valiant 2.5 years battle with lung cancer. She is the biggest part of who I am today, and throughout her life has always supported, encouraged, and helped me manifest EVERY single achievement I have accomplished. My mom grew up in a time when her options were limited outside of raising a family. She was the consummate 1970s stay at home mom to my brother and me, and a second mom to many others. ... Yet, she taught me to be fiercely independent, to rely on no one but myself, and to pursue a career I love. She was hands-down one of the most curious and intellectually gifted people I’ve ever met. I remember for her 60th birthday, my mom strapped on a backpack and hiked solo for 6 weeks along the famous Campostela Del Santiago pilgrimage trail in Spain. A couple of years later, she hiked across Northern France. She will forever be missed and cherished. To all of you who have reached out to my family and me over the past several weeks and days, THANK YOU. If you’d like to make a gift, in lieu of flowers, we are asking people to donate to lung cancer research at Cedar-Sinai. Here is the link: https://giving.cedars-sinai.edu/make-a-gift . Please make sure that you indicate that it is a memorial donation- specifically in the memory of Lynne Gilberg . . . #lungcancer #lungcancerresearch #death #obituary #mymom #askdrsuzanne
