This year, consider acupuncture for the treatment of seasonal allergy. In the US, approximately 40-60 million people suffer with symptoms of sneezing, coughing, congestion, runny nose, and itchy eyes/nose/mouth/throat. Allergic rhinitis is also associated with decreased concentration and focus, sleep disturbances, irritability, and fatigue.... The National Institute of Health (NIH) supports acupuncture for treatment of allergic rhinitis and references a meta-analysis of 2,365 allergic rhinitis patients; compared with a control group, the acupuncture treatment group had a significant reduction in nasal symptom scores, medication scores, and serum IgE, and an increase in quality of life scores. A German double blind randomized controlled study by the CharitéUniversitätsmedizin Berlin concluded that acupuncture patients required less medications and had significantly fewer symptoms. A meta-analysis of 30 independent clinical trials with 2,602 allergic rhinitis patients at Beijing University concluded acupuncture has both short and long-term clinical benefits. Allergic rhinitis is an inflammatory disorder of the nasal mucosa induced by allergen exposure that triggers IgE (immunoglobulin E) mediated inflammation. Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of allergic rhinitis include corticosteroids and antihistamines that may produce adverse side effects, including drowsiness, headaches, dizziness, fatigue, or sore throat.

(2009) concluded oolong tea could decrease body fat and reduce body wei...ght through improved fat metabolism. Hursel & Westerterp-Plantenga (2013) found different catechin- and caffeine- rich teas, such oolong tea, increased fat oxidation. An epidemiological case controlled study (Yi et al., 2014) conducted in Shantou, China, with 3,041 subjects, found long-term oolong tea consumption was associated with lowered total cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL levels. Oolong tea contains catechins, flavonoids, and polyphenols that act as antioxidants in the body. The polyphenols present in oolong tea may help increase metabolism and activate the specific enzyme that is responsible for dissolving triglycerides. A customized treatment plan with organic teas, herbal formulas, acupuncture, and other Chinese medicine modalities at Asiana Wellness could put you on the path to health, wellness, and...weight loss.

The Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku has proven to lower blood pressure, boost the immune system, and reduce stress hormones. . Shinrin-yoku, literally translates to forest bathing and refers to soaking up the forest atmosphere for health benefits. It differs from hikingthere is no destination involved. The goal is simply to take in the smell, sound, and sights of the environment. . The Japanese government has promoted shinrin-yoku as a therapy in the national h...ealth program for almost 40 years and has spent millions researching the physiological and psychological effects. . A 2017 systemic review of 20 randomized controlled trials concluded shirin-yoku had a significant effect on reducing blood pressure. . A 2010 study conducted at Nippon Medical School in Tokyo found shinrin-yoku resulted in significantly higher natural killer (NK) cell activitiespart of our immune system that attacks infected or tumor cells. . This is partly due to phytoncides, which are organic compounds and essential oils that trees emit to protect themselves from germs and insects. . Data from field experiments conducted in 24 forests across Japan concluded that subjects who participated in shinrin-yoku had lower salivary cortisol (stress hormone), blood pressure, pulse rate, and heart rate when compared with those who walked through a city setting. . A study on shinrin-yoku’s psychological effects showed significantly decreased scores for anxiety and depression. . All of this evidence suggests regular visits to the forest could improve our wellbeingand this Earth Day is a good occasion to start! See more

Researchers have found ACUPUNCTURE reduces menopausal symptoms of hot flashes and night sweats. A new review--of randomized controlled trials and systemic reviews--from Duke University Clinical Research Institute has found statistically significant reductions in frequency and severity. Peri-menopausal (average at mid 40's) and menopausal (average at 48-55) symptoms are attributed to decreased levels of estrogen, which help to regulate body's temperature.... Vasomotor symptoms may contribute to depression, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, and brain fog. Studies have found ACUPUNCTURE releases endorphins and other hormones, which may help to regain homeostasis in the body's central thermoregulatory center. Make an appointment today at Asiana Wellness to discuss ways in which acupuncture and Chinese medicine can help to manage your symptoms.
