Dear beloved clients, Here at Ashira Salon, we’re crestfallen at the rising numbers of COVID-19 cases with deaths practically equaling a 9/11 every day. We’re crushed that this has led to us having to cancel our client’s appointments during what is an already challenging holiday season for our community. In my family of origin living in Alabama alone, four of my family members have been infected and one is still hospitalized with the coronavirus. ... The seriousness of this virus is without question. What is in question, however, is the powers that be forcing closed the doors of small and one-on-one salons such as my sterile, purified air, non-toxic hair salon. Especially w/ a mere 48-hr notice during our busiest season. And with no financial assistance for an industry that was closed for over six months already this year. This will make seven. One day soon, we’ll be seen as the essential services we are. Here is a gentle reminder that a Cosmetologist license by the State Board of CA is a license to protect public health and safety, requiring 1600 hours on sanitation and sterilization alone. This is more than our local police have on gun training. Since March of 2020, many like myself, have had six hours of training on the coronavirus and this doesn’t include the additional hours on the sterilization refresh courses. I’m overjoyed that the county of Alameda has come to its senses, given us the respect that we deserve, and finally allowed us to reopen our doors....
