ABUNDANCE // Two days ago, I wrote a post that basically said "I have no words, but thank you" about the overwhelming love and prayers for what has been going on. I had no idea at that time, that I would be brought to my knees in tears on many occasions since as the creative community & our friends & families wrapped us in their love & comfort. Overwhelmed is an understatement for the abundance of generosity we're experiencing. Thank you. Each year, I pick a word fo...r the year. My 2020 word was PLANTING. I imagined myself deep in the dirt, doing the dirty work, so we could reap the rewards the following year. Little did we know what 2020 had in store, & all the dirt we'd find ourselves in. The past few days, the word ABUNDANCE has been on my mind. It felt greedy though. To try & plan & pursue a year of abundance - in time, energy, love, finances, & more when the world seems so dark, so unpredictable (hello pandemic) & more. Little did I know, within hours, I'd experience this word first hand - in generosity. Many times over the last two days, Jake & I looked at each other in amazement, humility, & just in tears over the abundance of generosity this community has provided. Truth be told, we still feel undeserving. 2020 was hard for all of us, especially the creative community. So this hits even closer to home than I can express. We thank you for the abundance of love. Of prayers. Of registry gifts. Of cookies (three deliveries yesterday!). Of messages. And of financial freedom. We've sacrificed a lot to get to where we are today & my heart had been hurting in recent weeks knowing that we'd take many steps backwards. To have that not be the case is incredibly humbling & heartwarming. Thank you. PRAYERS NEEDED // Vulnerability is a scary thing. But here we are, a year that tested all of us more than we could have ever imagined. And today, we’re choosing vulnerability for the benefit of community & asking for your prayers. First, our #baumbino is healthy & growing! He’s long & thin (like his dad) & has a big head (like me!). But... At 20 weeks pregnant (currently 25 weeks), I was diagnosed with cancer. After complications & what felt like a milli...on tests, scans, & procedures, our doctors found a slow-growing tumor in my bladder. This season has been filled with a roller coaster of emotions - a season of highs & lows. But as miracles go, we have baumbino to thank. If I hadn’t been pregnant, we most likely wouldn't have found this. He quite literally, saved me. And for that we will be eternally grateful & humbled by God’s timing & our little boy. We bring this up today because we believe in community + in prayer. After a lot of consideration, conversations with our care team, research (though there’s very little, less than 75 cases ever in pregnant women, many not in English journals), we’re moving forward with a tumor removal surgical procedure tomorrow. While we’ve been told repeatedly the risk to baumbino is extremely low, our hearts are anxious while trying to trust our care team & God’s plan. We kindly ask for your prayers & good vibes tomorrow. As an enneagram 2, I often worry what people will think. I would never want to share anything that may instill doubt or concern in our clients’ or industry peers’ hearts or minds. But we know this is bigger than that & that with careful care, everyone will remain healthy. Thank you to our inner circles that have wrapped us in so much love, comfort & registry gifts too. FAVORITE MOMENT EVER // While we celebrated another birthday for my favorite person ever @jabbaum yesterday, it had me reminiscing on my favorite moment ever. When I booked an anniversary session with @jen_rodriguez for this summer, pre-pandemic, I had no idea that she would be tasked with capturing my favorite moment of all time. My heart was racing. I had fooled Jake into thinking Jen (thanks Jen for playing along!) had tasked us with writing little love notes to ...each other to celebrate our anniversary & that she would ask us to read them to each other towards the end of our session. I honestly only remember a few things Jake said, because I was starting to well up & shake. You see, the end of my note had a surprise. And while I love surprising Jake with small and random gifts, this was one we dreamed of. Talked about constantly. Prayed for. Wanted so deeply. And I was bubbling up with emotion. For at around 5:45am that morning, I found out that this precious gift existed. And while it took me the day to not only process the excitement & all of the nerves, it also made this moment even more special. This reaction. THIS reaction from @jabbaum is what I dreamed of. Five years before, we didn't do a first look (but a first prayer) & even sans-alcohol, our wedding was a blur. I don't remember his face when I walked down the aisle. But this moment. I will remember forever. And I am so dang grateful, that I have photos to commemorate the moment Jake said "are you serious?" over and over & welled up with tears of excitement. BUSY SEASON // Despite it being a COVID year (think about how that will sound a decade from now!), October continues to prove to be the busiest month of the year. We are so grateful for a month mixed with lots of clients of different types, and a lot of fun mixed in too! Just got back from being out of town for two destination sessions last night, and now finishing up a lot of tasks today before I'm fully out of office Thursday-Sunday. Then next week, we a...re photographing five amazing sessions in five days. Woo! One destination anniversary session, two local family sessions, a destination engagement session and an out of town lifestyle newborn session. But then it's birthday week after that! Whew! MEANT TO BE // Several years ago, I unknowingly walked into a second shooter position at a wedding & fell in love. I had that moment, the one where you know what you're supposed to do with your life, your career, your passion. And I've chased that wildly for the last several years (and will continue to do so). But something else was pulling at my heartstrings too. I had always known I wanted a family, but something clicked last year, & I knew it was meant to be. I c...raved it so deeply in my mind, heart, & soul. I knew I was called to be a mother & couldn't wait to fulfill that role. Well let's just say, 2020 hasn't been all bad & God is faithful. We cannot wait to lean into one of our highest callings, becoming parents this spring! Murph is over the moon excited (can't you tell? ) along with our family & best friends. And it just fills me with all the warm fuzzies. #baumbino coming spring 2021 & I know what you're thinking, frequently asked questions : - We do not know the gender yet, as my previous insurance didn't cover the early testing. We just switched this week but we're so close to just knowing from an ultrasound. We're eager! - We will be mastering the art of small space living over the next year in our apartment which is making us very intentional about baby needs. - We've talked 1:1 with the clients this directly affects & are overwhelmed by their graciousness. - I can't stand when people say "COVID baby" or "quarantine baby" . NINE YEARS // Nine years ago today, Jake and I went on our first date. Kind of hard to believe that it's been that long, and yet, in some moments, it feels like a blink of an eye. To be transported back to the 50's diner with milk shakes. The note he gave me in the car after dinner. Seeing a movie and heading to the beach for my roommate's birthday bonfire. Life seemed a lot simpler, and yet very complex back then. And while a part of me wishes I knew then what I know now, li...fe and life with @jabbaum has been one heck of a ride since that night nine years ago. Never stop fighting for the people you love. Never stop chasing them. Showing them you care. And never stop wearing your heart on your sleeve. GRADUAL CHANGE // 2020 threw a lot of us for a curveball. And while we have achieved a lot of goals DESPITE the hurdles of a pandemic, mass closures, and cancelled events, some things we are having to accept being delayed or that we will have to accept gradual change. Today I signed the lease to renew our apartment for another year. While I had bigger plans for 2020 and didn't imagine signing it for the sixth time, I I know that we're being smart and have a plan for... 2021. The gradual change will be worth it for the large payoff next year! And that's a lot like running a business. You don't see change right away. You might not be able to step into full time right away either. And that's what we're talking about today on @daretodevelop. How @kristine_nicole and I each took a path to going full time in our businesses.
