ASEF Fellow 2020 Dalma Lorena Grbec from Argentina visited Slovenia last year as part of the ASEF Fellowship program. She conducted her research in financial self-efficiency in family businesses and the impact on performance of small and medium-sized enterprises under the mentorship of Prof. Boštjan Antoni at the School of Economics and Business at the University of Ljubljana. Dalma, namely, comes from a family, which owns a business related to transport and logistics. Her ...grandfather founded the business when he migrated from Slovenia to Argentina after the Second World War. Her visit to Slovenia opened up possible new business paths, as she is considering moving part of the family business to Slovenia with the help of her brother. Thomas McDonald, a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Comparative Literature at Stanford University, will introduce Peter Handke's (the 2019 Nobel Prize in Literature) work through the lens of Slovene language, literature, and culture. Thomas researches modern German-language, South Slavic and Japanese literature. To better understand Handke, Thomas found it highly desirable to learn Slovene, which he pursued by taking Slovene classes at Stanford. In 2019, as an ASEF Fell...ow, Thomas got an opportunity to visit Ljubljana and work under the mentorship of historian Igor Grdina, Ph.DD., at the Research Center of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts (ZRC SAZU).
