ARTS Performance Academy

Auditions are fast approaching for ARTS’ Literature in Action and Pride Youth Theatre Company’s joint production of Moisés Kaufman’s, The Laramie Project, performing at ARTSpace black box theater September 27, 28, 29 and October 4, 5, 6. This is a free play production program open to all young people between the ages of 13-25. Participation could be on many levels of artistic expression and technical expertise, from playing several roles (there are over 60), to tech support (...lights and sound), to costuming, set design/dressing, or stage managing. Auditions will be held at ARTSpace black box theater, located in the one-time multi purpose room of Simi Elementary School, 2956 School St., Simi Valley 93065. The theater is set back about a hundred yards south of the corner of School St. And Deodora. There is no signage as of yet, but you’ll see a white couch and American flag bunting on the wall above it just outside the double doors of the theater. All are welcome to attend this open call and those wishing to participate as an actor should prepare a one-minute dramatic monologue of their choosing. We look forward to seeing you!

Did you know that the non profit Simi Valley Cultural Association was established in 1976 in order to create a performing arts center in Simi Valley that might ...serve the needs of the community by promoting cultural growth through quality live entertainment? Although the original performing arts center was never built, the mantle was taken up two decades later by a group of dedicated City and arts administrators, and the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center came to fruition. The mission and goals of SVCA have evolved over the past nearly three decades to focus on raising cultural awareness through arts, history and inclusive educational programs. Actors’ Repertory Theatre of Simi, under the umbrella of SVCA, has been the driving force behind these goals since 1992. Since 1995 ARTS has presented a season of live stage performance at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center. Our evolution as a theatre company has resulted in the expansion of cultural and educational programs that have helped to change the landscape of our community. Serving the needs of young people and families has inspired programs such as the Ghost Tour in Strathearn Park, the Nottingham and Tumbleweed Festivals, ARTS Performance Academy, Literature in Action, Spectrum Collaborative, Time Travelers Inc., ARTS Cultural Enrichment Center, and the new black box theater on site at Simi Elementary School, ARTSpace. We are dedicated to improving and enriching the quality of life in Simi for all residents of all ages and cultural backgrounds, and continue to act as a conduit for building bridges that connect us through artistic endeavor.
