A huge congratulations goes out to friend of the SaintsDennis "Denny" Marquardt. Temple City High School recently honored Denny by dedicating its home stadium after him. Denny is the father of Marty Marquardt, one of the Saints' founders, and Andy Marquardt, a Saints alum. Denny's career was impressive and left lasting marks on the San Gabriel Valley and baseball communities: His father started Covina Little League in the early 1950’s... He was a 4-year letterman in baseball, and a 3-year letterman in basketball at Covina High School He earned All-CIF honors twice in baseball and once in basketball In 1961, Denny signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers In his first year in the Dodgers' farm system, he was selected as a California League All-Star while playing for the Reno Silver Sox He was one of the first players in the same year to slug 20 home runs and steal 20 bases for the Dodgers Marquardt received his master's in teaching from Pepperdine University and a bachelor's of physical education from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona He taught at Temple City High School for 35 years retiring in 2005. He was the Rams' head baseball coach for 27 years from 1971-1997 Over this span, his teams won 398 games Marquardt's team went to the CIF playoffs 20 times His team's won 10 Rio Hondo League championships Denny's No. 7 was the first number retired in the history of Temple City High School's baseball program In 1997, Marquardt was inducted into the San Gabriel Valley Coaches Hall of Fame And on February 15, 2020, Temple City High School dedicated its stadium "Dennis Marquardt Stadium" From all of us at the Saints, tip of the cap Coach Marquardt!
