ARES of Santa Cruz County, Ca. 19.01.2021

Our virtual meeting is tonight, January 20, at 7:00 pm (1900 hours). Watch your email inbox for a Zoom invitation. If you are local to Santa Cruz County and would like to attend, but not on our mailing list, please comment below and we will link up with you by private message. You can attend on your computer, your laptop, or even your phone. We'll review the recent SAFE 3 exercise, discuss plans for transmitter upgrades, assess possible future deployments, and enlighten some of our newer members about the nature of nets. That, and more. Stay tuned! Allie KM6RMN

January 13--Bundle up and grab your flashlight along with your gear on this dark and moonless night. This week's net will be brought to you by the dynamic duo, Mikail (KK6NNB) and Allison (KM6RMN). Don't miss out... they're full of surprises. Everyone is welcome to listen. Area ham operators are encouraged to check in. Net control duties rotate each week, but participants can practice by listing all check-ins they hear as well. Learn how you can take your turn as net control by attending our Zoom meetings on the third Wednesday of each month. -Allie KM6RMN

SAFE III exercise happens this Sunday afternoon! What is SAFE? The Scavange Around Field Exercise, that's what! Hone your mobile radio and emergency communications skills by searching for information hidden in plain sight around Santa Cruz County. This exercise is designed with responsible social distancing in mind. You'll be asked to commit roughly 3 hours to the exercise plus a bit more time in the evening for a Zoom debrief meeting. No need to sign up, just check into the resource net when the event starts. But be prepared! There are instructions to read and paperwork to familiarize yourself with first. For information about the resource net, time frame, and materials (we'll be using ICS standard forms for practice) email John (N6QX)at [email protected]. Have fun, and 73 - Allie KM6RMN

January 6. First net of the year; and baby, it's cold outside. Take part in this week's net in your cozy ham shack, or the warmth of your car. That is, if you can get good propagation. Otherwise, dress warm when you go out on your deck to find the best signal. Everyone is welcome to listen. Area ham operators are welcome to check in. Net control duties rotate each week, but participants can practice by listing all check-ins they can hear as well. Learn how you can take your... turn as net control by attending our Zoom meetings on the third Wednesday of each month. -Allie KM6RMN
