Hi Everyone! We are prepping to open soon with some social distancing guidelines in place. It has been a real struggle acquiring PPE to keep our patients and staff safe, so thank you for your continued patience! For those of you who had appointments cancelled in March, April and May, we will be calling you in the next few weeks. We look forward to seeing you soon. - Dr. Hinkley

Dear friends, It’s hard to believe only 2 weeks have passed since the shelter in place order for Sacramento went into effect. What is clear, that was so uncertain then, is that we will need to continue our efforts to socially distance ourselves beyond the original 2 weeks. The Governor has already stated that we should plan for these measures to continue through the summer, and I agree that this is the best way to safeguard the health of our community. In order to continue ...to serve you during this period, our staff will provide limited hours for contact lens ordering (all contact lens prescriptions will be extended) with direct shipment to you and for pick up of completed spectacle and contact lens orders. I want to thank you all for helping the community efforts to #flattenthecurve. I know this is an incredibly difficult situation (emotionally, physically and financially) for all of us. What I also know is that now is not the time to get complacent about our social distancing efforts. That means that it is still not safe for routine eye exams, routine eyewear adjustments, non-critical visits, and social gatherings. I just want to reassure you that our office is here for you and will be back to serve you when we can do that in a safe and responsible way. COVID-19 UPDATE Dear Friends, In light of recent recommendations from the California Department of Public Health and the Governor of California, Arden Park Optometry is suspending routine patient care for 2 weeks, through March 27, 2020. The safety of this community and my staff are of utmost importance to me, and I did not feel certain that I could guarantee this while conducting eye exams.... We will be minimally staffed during this time. Pick up of contact lens and spectacle orders can be made by appointment, Monday through Friday, 9 AM-1PM. We are still taking new contact lens orders and recommend they be made by phone. Patients requiring emergent care (red eyes, swollen lids) can still contact our office at (916) 646-9155. The phone lines will be forwarded to my cell phone after hours. We are also responding to email correspondence at [email protected] or [email protected]. I understand that you may be experiencing uncertainty at this time, too. As a small business owner, the financial impact of closure is profound. I want to let you know how much your support means. In honor of Black History Month, I’d like to share the story of Dr. Marvin R. Poston (1915-2002), the first African-American optometrist to be licensed in California. He graduated from the UC Berkeley School of Optometry in 1939 and was also that school’s first black graduate (the second would not follow until 1962). Last year, he was posthumously awarded Berkeley Optometry’s Alumnus of the Year award. During the presentation, we learned that he actually didn’t attend his gr...aduation ceremony because his boss wouldn’t give him the day off and he wouldn’t walk in a graduation ceremony for another 50 years. He later went on to be the President if the California Optometric Association, from which he had once been denied membership because of his race. A true pioneer for optometry, he paved the way for generations of people of color (including me) to practice optometry, and I am eternally grateful that I can stand on the shoulders of this great man. #blackhistorymonth #marvinpostonod #2020vision See more

2020 is a big year for Optometry and for me, especially. December will mark 10 years since I bought this practice, and today gives me the opportunity to reflect on how grateful I am for my staff, my patients and my family. Thank you for all sticking with me through highs and lows the birth of my 2 kids, the loss of my mother and a big practice move last year. When I went into this profession, I didn’t realize how much I would be deeply moved by my patientsboth your joys an...d sorrows. I was surprised how much I would lean on you when I was at my lowest and how your kindness could make my day so much better. Thank you for your trust in me.
