After their September meeting, the Fed announced they'll "soon" start tapering the asset purchases they used to bolster the economy through the pandemic, and they expect to raise policy rates next year. A sliver of good news for the holidays, first vaccines are being administered and The Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) announced that @Fannie Mae and @Freddie Mac (the Enterprises) have extended single-family foreclosures and real estate owned (REO) evictions until at least January 31, 2021. The foreclosure moratorium applies to Enterprise-backed, single-family mortgages only. The REO eviction moratorium applies to properties that have been acquired by an... Enterprise through foreclosure or deed-in-lieu of foreclosure transactions. The current moratoriums were set to expire on December 31, 2020. According to Mike Fratantoni, Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of Research & Technology at the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), 2021 will most likely be a year of a continued, but slow economic recovery, with a modest rise in mortgage rates, and the stubborn, ongoing housing market conundrum of inadequate supply in relation to demand. Home prices have risen more rapidly than incomes for years now, and the many challenges that have slowed homebuying will continue to push home prices higher.
