’Take care of the memory of things that were already there, and listen to the people that are living there.’ Thanks Jean-Philippe Vassal for these inspiring words and congratulations to Lacaton and Vassal on being awarded the Pritzker Prize. Read about their work here
You can’t pinch these buildings they’re green! ARG continues to be an advocate for sustainability in architecture and design. Meet some of the lucky buildings we’ve worked on that are LEED-certified. https://www.argsf.com/portfolio/

For lighthouse enthusiasts (like us) check out Vox’s video on the history of Fresnel Lens! ARG has worked on two lighthouses in the Bay Area with them, do you know which ones? *Hint, refer to our blog A Tale of Two Lighthouses.
We’re reaching new heights! Here’s an action shot of our San Francisco team on a recent site visit to the Santa Barbara County Courthouse. Known for its historical significance, the Santa Barbara County Courthouse is listed on the National Register and is a National Historic Landmark. Thanks to Schipper Construction for the lift! ... #ARGSiteVisit See more
We want to thank the students, parents, teachers, and principal of John Yehall Chin Elementary School for participating in this year's virtual Leap Sandcastle Classic! We are proud of the work students did and glad to have continued our participation in the fundraising event. We also want to thank all of our donors for helping us raise $3650 so far. We’re excited to announce The Trust Building took home the Los Angeles Business Council Preservation award! It was a lovely evening celebrating along with Rising Realty Partners and the team thanks to LABC for the recognition and event.
From our beginnings, ARG has paved the way of architecture and historic preservation by doing good work, while making money and having fun! We’re taking a break this week to share some behind the scene photos of what a team looks like when they’re doing good work while having fun with it. Thank you to all for being a part of this journey!
We're excited to be working along a great team on this UCSF project! Learn more here -

Remember the Ermatinger Home we shared with you all on Thursday? Well if you have not yet figured out the famous coin toss that took place there - it's associated with the naming of Portland! Take a quick tour - https://www.argsf.com/portfolio/francis-ermatinger-house/
ARG has participated in the Leap Sandcastle Classic for over 20 years and is once again partnered with John Yehall Chin Elementary School in San Francisco. Due to the current pandemic, this year’s season is taking place over a series of virtual school visits to ensure the safety of our community and participants. ARG will lead students through design and building activities to help them imagine and create a unique 3D castle using items found inside their homes. Please join us in supporting Leap by donating to our team. The funds will be used to provide arts programs to Bay Area students. https://www.flipcause.com/secure/fundraiser/Nzk5NDk=/49266
Looking through these images of The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens has us begging for the weekend to begin. Did you know that their 40,000 square-foot archive utilizes a mechanical system critical to to preserving of these significant artifacts? Talk about staying cool! #TGIF https://www.argsf.com//the-huntington-education-and-visit/
And, #2015 continues! This post we’re taking a look at our Northern projects. #40YearsARG http://bit.ly/40YearsARG In San Francisco the restoration and rehabilitation of the New Mission Theatre was coming to its finale. Its iconic interior features and finishes were painstakingly restored, while on the exterior the marquee and 70-foot-high Art Deco blade sign were rehabilitated and relit with new neon. The rehabilitation of the historic Francis Ermatinger House in Oregon Cit...y concluded. Providing architecture and conservation services for the multi-faceted rehab, ARG also developed a strategic plan with detailed recommendations for critical next steps, including governance, fundraising, maintenance, interpretation, and programming. Did you know this place is known for a famous coin toss? Tell us in the comments if you know! We also celebrated our 35th anniversary, announced our expanded leadership team, and launched our updated branding which included a new website and logo.
They say first impressions are everything! And to prove it, meet our #2015 projects. #40YearsARG http://bit.ly/40YearsARG The Steven S. Koblik Education & Visitor Center opened to the public in April, creating a welcoming new ‘front door’ to The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens. ARG’s design added eight acres of new buildings and gardens for visitors, scholars, and staff while respecting the Huntington Estate’s historic scale and character. Just a few bl...ocks from The Huntington, a former mortuary was transformed into a Recital Hall for the Pasadena Conservatory of Music. Having created a Master Plan for the site in 2012, the first phase which included the Recital Hall was complete. The Recital Hall provides the Conservatory with a signature performance space with a mix of fixed seating on risers and movable chairs, balanced acoustics, and up-to-date sound and lighting systems. Down in San Diego’s Balboa Park, the California Tower at the Museum of Us (previously known as Museum of Man) re-opened for the first time in 80 years. ARG worked closely with the San Diego building department to make sufficient life safety improvements to allow public access once again, just in time for its centennial. ARG also designed an innovative exhibit at the ground level that allows those who are not able to (or choose not to!) climb to the viewing balconies at the 8th floor to see, at the press of a button, current views from webcams installed at 9th floor. The California Tower project received the 2015 Grand Orchid award from The San Diego Architectural Foundation.
Make sure to mark your calendar for the Fast Forward Conference! Hosted by the Palm Springs Architecture Alliance, where ARG staff will be presenting. https://buff.ly/352abLW
