The UCSD Spanos Athletic Performance Center recently received a Tilt-Up Achievement Award as part of TCA’s 30th Annual Awards Program. . Tilt-up panel construction was utilized as a design strategy for its durability, visual strength and economy. In a facility that is dominated by weight training equipment, the structure feels appropriate. We are honored to announce the recently completed Fine Arts Building at Mesa College received an Orchid for Architecture at last night’s 2020 Orchids and Onions Awards Ceremony. . Congrats to our hgw team, Jim, Frank and Adrienne, for all of their hard work in making this a successful project as well as our Design/Build partner, CW Driver, and our Consultant Team. . This is the direction a lot of architecture needs to go in terms of saving our resources. All the time, mone...y and C02 that was expended in this concrete structure is now saved and reused for another 20 or 30 years. We couldn’t agree more! . ARCHITECTS hanna gabriel wells is deeply troubled to learn that a draft executive order is circulating among White House staff that, if signed, would officially designate "classical" architecture as the preferred style of all federal courthouses, all federal public buildings in the Capital region, and all other federal public buildings whose cost exceeds $50 million. We strongly and unequivocally oppose this policy to promote any one style of architecture for federal buildin...gs across the country. This top-down approach will cut local community voices out of the design process. Classical architecture has tremendous value, but so do other architectural styles. Depending on the needs of the community, a different approach may be much more appropriate.
