We missed going to Europe this year to visit some of the great architecture and craftsmanship of the old countries. Their amazing work was so well built we get to enjoy it today like Neuschwanstein Castle in Fussen Germany. Built by King Ludwig who was more interested in art and architecture than running the Bavarian state. He built this stunning castle that was the inspiration for Walt Disney for his castle at Disneyland. Proper installation of water dampening existing pools that are undergoing renovations require a step by step process that when done properly consumes a lot of time. Prepping the shell by cleaning it, then conditioning the concrete to bring out the alkalis in it so the colloidal silicate will react with the concrete properly, applying the membrane and finally applying a bond coat that with a concrete surface reading of 3 or more. Many water dampening products skip some of these steps. We prefer a belt and suspenders approach to give our work the best opportunity to last. @watershapeorg #aimforperfection

It’s Hollywood Squares day on our Seal Beach project. We have 93 3’x3’ concrete pads and 187 square feet of field concrete all done in a sand finish. My guys did a great job forming and pouring this layout. I think we took most of the west coasts lumber supply for a few days on this one. @watershapeorg #aimforperfection @ Seal Beach, California

We’ve been busy moving forward on some projects. We just wrapped up plastering our Seal Beach project. Our guys did a great job fabricating the porcelain tile that tops the overflow spa. Now it’s time to get some plants and landscape lighting in. @watershapeorg #aimforperfection

When it’s hot out and the sun is beating down on us we always make sure to install waterproofing and tile in a shaded environment. If the surface that we are applying the material to is above specified temperatures from the manufacturer then we could have an installation failure. And my employees love working under shelter! This porcelain tile we are installing normally comes as a mesh backed tile but we special ordered it as a plastic face tile to insure 100 percent thin set coverage on the back of the tile. @watershapeorg #aimforperfection

We love doing the toe kick detail on our spas. Because of today’s more modern lineal designs we haven’t done a lot of round spas lately. Doing a toe kick on a round spa takes some planning and form work. Came out nice on this one. @watershapeorg #aimforperfection @ Seal Beach, California

Prepping is the most time consuming part of tile work. We overshoot our Lautner overflow edged so we can ensure we have proper coverage over our stainless steel rods that help support the steep angled and thin shotcrete. Proper Shotcrete application is one of the processes we pride ourselves on. Pouring/Shooting the floor first, multiple shots on overflow and difficult designed pools. When a negative edge pool is done properly it entails proper formwork and multiple shots. This ensures that no voids are left in the wall and the rebound and trimmings don’t fall into the floor. Downside of the correct process is the rebound and trimmings you have to haul off. Educating consumers as to why it needs to be done this way is one of the first things we do when we meet with prospective clients. @watershapeorg #aimforperfection

We are thinking of Italy today and how sad we are about how hard they have been hit by the Corona Virus. If you have the chance to go please do so in the future. The architecture, history and the amazing engineering is not to be missed. The incredible workmanship that is on display is an lost art form today. Getting close to finishing up on this project. A few more details to go. The @bisazzaofficial tile came out perfect. The pump is running 120lnft of edge at 1800rpm. Utilizing proper hydraulics ensures that we can run the pump 24 hours with minimal energy use and give the pool the desired glass effect on the water surface @watershapeorg #aimforperfection

More rain on the way but with the rain delays in March and a deadline to meet it was time to put up the tile tent and a couple of tarps to keep this project moving. We are doing an Hydrazzo French Gray to give this pool a medium blue hue. We can’t wait to fill this and get some sunny weather! @watershapeorg #aimforperfection
