Mariner Track fans and family: at this time our season is suspended through next week. No practices or competitions will be held during that time. Intrasquad practice meet in the books! It was a great success highlighted by FIVE 4x400 relays including a heroic sub-5:00 throwers group! PRs all over the place, amazing competition, smiles everywhere! #MightyMariners getting ready for another amazing title run!

The career of an Aptos High all-timer wrapped up last night with Hunter Matys placing 6th in the state in the long jump with a mark of 22’10.75. Matys finishes his time as a Mariner with four school records in track and field: 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay, and long jump. He also advanced to the state level post season in football, basketball, and track, something never accomplished before. More importantly, he’s a terrific performer in the classroom and a pleasure to coach and teach. Cannot be more proud of him and all that he’s earned. His long jump coach Joel Koch (pictured below) has this to say about Hunter and his performance: There were no shrimps at this buffet. Hunter rose to the occasion while maintaining a laser focus. I’m extremely proud and honored to have had the opportunity to be his [long jump] coach over the years.
