#TrafficTipTuesday Assembly Bill 2285: The state’s Move Over, Slow Down law, which is currently in place only on freeways, will be extended to apply to local streets and roads as well under this new measure. The law says any motorists approaching a stopped emergency vehicle flashing its lights must proceed with caution, moving over to another lane if possible or slowing down. Emergency vehicles include first responder vehicles, as well as tow trucks and Caltrans vehicles, a...ccording to CHP. Going into effect on July 1: Assembly Bill 47: While it’s already illegal to use a handheld cell while driving in California, this new measure adds a point to the driver’s record of anyone who violates the hands-free law for a second time within 36 months of a prior conviction. A violation includes talking or texting while holding the device and driving, and any use of smartphone devices by a driver under the age of 18. #AppleValleyPD #SBCSD #ItsNotWorthIt

Every year we come together to make an unforgettable experience for the children in our Town. This year was no different. Even through a pandemic, we had an overwhelming amount of support from our community. We would like to thank everyone who donated. A special thank you to Super Target in Apple Valley for the Heroes & Helpers Grant and for graciously donating all the cookies, donuts, and coffee. #AppleValleyPoliceDepartment #AVPAL #SBCSD #DeputySheriff

Public Health Order The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is aware of the state’s plan to modify the Stay At Home Order depending on the fluctuation... of ICU bed availability/capacity in our region. We will continue to work closely with our county and city partners to best serve our communities. As has been the case since we were initially faced with the difficulties of living and working through this pandemic together, our goal is to educate and gain voluntary compliance regarding Public Health orders. We will continue to partner with our communities and deliver the law enforcement services they deserve while keeping health and safety of our staff and those we serve as a top priority. Back in March, county departments collaborated and established an online reporting system for members of the public, including those choosing to remain anonymous, to report alleged violations of Public Health orders. Depending on the type and severity of the allegation(s), complaints are addressed by various county or city agencies. It is not our intent to utilize patrol personnel to respond to these allegations. Those calling to report alleged violations of Public Health orders will be referred to the county’s Joint Information Center (JIC) so the appropriate department(s) can be made aware and address the incidents on a case by case basis. We trust that members of the communities we serve will act responsibly and demonstrate good judgement to do their part to slow the spread of the virus. For more information related to San Bernardino County’s COVID-19 response and/or to report an alleged violation of the Order, visit sbcovid19.com or call the JIC at (909) 387-3911. See more

**Town closes offices, transitions to virtual services** In response to California’s latest Stay at Home order, the Town of Apple Valley will transition to of...fering virtual customer service beginning Monday, Dec 7, through the end of the year. Due to the rising COVID case rate in Southern California, the percentage of available ICU beds is quickly decreasing toward the state’s safety threshold of 15%, straining the region’s healthcare system and frontline workers. The Town is also closely monitoring the positivity rate of the high desert region, which stands at approximately 19.2% in Apple Valley. This means that for every 100 persons tested, 19.2 will test positive. The rate is higher still in Hesperia, at 22.5%, and in Victorville, 20%; by comparison, the rate is only 10.3% in Upland and 11.3% in Rancho Cucamonga. As such, for the safety of residents, customers, and staff, the Town will close its offices and facilities to public access. However, Town staff will continue to provide customer service via phone and online features. Trash payments and business license renewals can be made at av.town/onlinepayments. Reports of potholes, graffiti, and more can be made at av.town/letusknow. Building inspections will continue to occur under safe practices, limited contact, and in some cases, virtual inspections. Building plans and applications can be submitted online via the Town’s Electronic Permit Center at av.town/eplancheck. Physical submittal of plans and permit applications can mailed or delivered to Town Hall and will be distributed after defogging. For more information please call (760) 961-7047 or email [email protected]. Several upcoming events will also be canceled, including Household Hazardous Waste collection on Saturdays, and Tire Drop Off Day, Dec 5. The Apple Valley Animal Shelter will also be closed to the public. Animal Control officers will continue in-take of animals in the field; however, owner turn-ins of healthy animals will not be accepted at this time. Code Enforcement officers and Public Works crews will continue to patrol, service roads and facilities, and work from their vehicles but with limited public contact. Parks and the golf course will remain open and adhere to CDC guidelines. However, high-touch public playgrounds will be closed. Use-permits for gatherings greater than 10 are prohibited. Regularly scheduled Town Council and Planning Commission meetings will continue to be held virtually at applevalley.tv or on Frontier channel 29 or Spectrum channel 186. Visit applevalley.org for a list of public meetings and agendas. Local information will be updated on the Town's Facebook page and special webpage at av.town/coronavirus. Please email general questions to [email protected] or call (760) 240-7000.
