Tips & Tricks Thursday! Today is Tips Every Driver Should Know: Did you know that every 44 seconds in the United States a motor vehicle is stolen? The estimated total value of vehicles stolen is more than 4.3 billion. Tips to prevent your vehicle from being stolen:... * nearly half of the theft is due to driver behavior. make sure to your doors and remove your keys from the ignition. Do not start your car to warm up and leave in your driveway or on the street. *use common sense when parking and exiting your vehicle. If possible park in well-lit and familiar areas. Do not leave purses, loose change, electronics or charging devices in plain site as desperate people will break the window to steal those items. Now they are in so they continue to steal your car. Now the big question is does your insurance cover you if your car is stolen, vandalized or property is stolen from your vehicle? If they do, repair with silicone caulk to prevent further damage. *Keep the area above you oven and stove free of grease, flammable and combustible residue and items. Don't store fire wood on the side of your house Place sheds and playhouses 30 ft from house Use non combustible materials around any structure, such as sand Replace wood mulch with non combustible landscaping rocks Keep your doors and windows closed when a wildfire threatens to prevent embers from floating in and starting a fire DO NOT STORE GAS OR ANY OTHER COMBUSTIBLES UNDER YOUR DECK OR OUTSIDE YOUR HOME. Store them in a separate structure at least 30 from your home.

Tips and Tricks Thursday! Did you know that more than 150,000 homes had a cooking fire in 2011? Unattended cooking was by far the leading contributing factor in these fires. MAKE SURE ALL COOKING IS CLOSELY MONITORED. Stay attentive and in the kitchen when cooking. Always check that the stove, counter tops and surrounding areas are grease free and wiped down. A small kitchen fire extinguisher can come in handy but if caught off guard without just remember to PUT A LID ON IT. Keeping a lid in the area of cooking can come in handy!
