After decades of studies about protein metabolism, there's a recurrent findind: the overall quality and quantity of protein exceeds what type and timing of protein consumption - in simple terms: it doesnt matter if you drink 50g worth of whey protein after your workout if your overall protein intake is poor. Another important fact is protein timing - when we consume protein is important, especially if we're exercising, and even more so, if we're doing strength training. So,... this made me think about Intermittent Fasting and the new trend around it. Turns out that if your objective is to increase muscle mass, maybe IF is not a good route: your window to ingest protein is compromised, and so the opportunity to ingest between 20-40g of protein every 4 hours. With only 8 hours of feeding time you just cannot ingest over 80g of protein! Enough for the average woman, but hardly enough for the active, weightlifter man. Super excited about the new collagen creamers from @vitalproteins. They're perfect to add to smoothies and coffees of course. I got coconut and vanilla flavors and they're both delicious. We start decreasing our production of collagen when we reach around 30 years of age. Collagen is important for skin elasticity and also joint health. After years of studies failing to support the benefit of exogenous sources of collagen on actual skin and joint health, it seems like technology has caught up to it: new forms of pre-digested and highly absorbable collagen are currently in the market with evidence that indeed they can increase elasticity and joint healing and health! #nutritiontips #personalnutrition #wellness #nourish #instahealth

If you're considering prepped meals or cooking kits, there's a world of options out there. Basically there are 3 types: 1. Meal delivery services - food is 100%l prepared and portioned. Some come frozen, other (local companies) refrigerated; 2. Cooking kits - most famous being Blue Apron, where you get all the ingredients needed to prepare the recipes yourself; 3. Online recipes - websites or apps that offer recipes and meal planning. Obviously meal delivery services are the ...most convenient choice. You don't need to shop, prep or cook anything - just heat your dinner up. Super convenient, usually healthier than takeout. Taste is not as good as freshly cooked meals, not necessarily "balanced" in terms of nutrients. Next convenient option are cooking kits - you save time by not having to do grocery shopping, but you do have to cook the meals. Meal is cooked mostly from scratch, save time from grocery shopping, healthy options are usually available. Not necessarily balanced, varies on level of cooking experience. Lastly, online recipes can be a good alternative for those who are a little more experienced with cooking. Grogery shopping is still needed but meal planning is easier. Helps meal planning and organizing meals for the week. Can be time consuming.
