Pet of the Week: Meet Iza! Iza is a sweet and playful, 1 year old Whippet mix. She came into our No Kill Shelter after three nice teenagers found her in Morongo and noticed that she was injured. The teens created a splint for her injured leg and brought her to safety. Iza was treated for a compound fracture and she is healing nicely! Animal Samaritans Adoption Alliance Program works with non-profit rescue groups and adoption centers to pull potentially at-risk shelter pets from our local animal control agency. Our "Highway Hero" volunteers transport pets to the safety of our partners. As you know, in our valley large breed dogs have a harder time finding forever homes than their smaller kennel mates. Thanks to our hardworking Highway Heroes for transporting these large dogs to safety at the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center ! They will enjoy lots of love from staff and volunteers as they patiently wait to find their perfect, forever homes! Happy Tails Adoption Update: 156...that was the lucky number for Conrad! This week Conrad became the 156th Animal Samaritans' shelter dog to be adopted from The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa! Animal Samaritans' adoption partnership with The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa, in Rancho Mirage, began in 2015. To date 156 dogs have been adopted through the program. Adoptable dogs that are fostered at the Westin enjoy a fancy doghouse and playpen in the lobby whe...re they get lots of love from resort guests. Guests are welcome to cuddle the dogs and take them for walks around the beautiful property. This program helps our adoptable dogs get socialization with people and children and it gives guests a chance to spend time with the dog to see if they are a good fit for their family. Happy Tails Adoption Update: Pebbles is a spunky pup who arrived at our Animal Samaritans' No Kill Shelter with her brother, Bam Bam. While in our care Pebbles and Bam Bam provided a lot of entertainment for our volunteers and staff who loved playing with these sweet siblings. Christina Bloch is one of Animal Samaritans foster volunteers. She has been fostering shelter dogs for over a year. Christina has fostered several of our dogs, for months at a time, many who have had medical challenges. She is pictured here with Iza who is recovering from a compound fracture to her leg. Fostering our dogs who need extra attention like Iza, is extremely helpful. The dogs in her care also learn what it's like to live with the comforts of a home, and this socialization improves their temperament, making them more easily adoptable. Animal Samaritans' adoption partnership with The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa, in Rancho Mirage, began in 2015. To date 155 dogs have been adopted through the program. Until earlier this month, the program had been on paws since the beginning of the COVID pandemic. We are thrilled to announce that Conrad, a handsome 2 year old dachshund, is now enjoying living at Westin Mission Hills as he patiently waits to meet his perfect match! Adoptable dogs that are fostere...d at the Westin enjoy a fancy doghouse and playpen in the lobby where they get lots of love from resort guests. Guests are welcome to cuddle the dogs and take them for walks around the beautiful property. This program helps our adoptable dogs get socialization with people and children and it gives guests a chance to spend time with the dog to see if they are a good fit for their family. Raquel Wood, executive assistant to the general manager, runs the program at the Westin. She says some of the dogs have been adopted by vacationing families, others by business travelers who take a dog for a walk between meetings and inadvertently fall in love. This playful pup brought joy to our staff and volunteers who loved playing with him and caring for him. Bam Bam met his Valentines over the weekend and fell in love with his new forever family!
