AHS Students Hi Everyone! I know it’s been a crazy couple few weeks. When people use the word unprecedented, this is what they mean. Everyone’s lives have been disrupted and we’ve all faced many challenges. Some more than others. I know some of you may be dealing with losing jobs, family members who have lost their jobs, moving unexpectedly, and a whole litany of unexpected events. I also feel very acutely how we so rapidly lost a bit of our community in the last few weeks.... Please know that I and the rest of us in the AHS major are here for you. I truly believe that this is all temporary, and we will be able to be together again soon. Meanwhile, please stay involved and in contact with us. The connections you have made within the AHS major are even more important now. And if you haven’t felt connected, then please join us in virtual events, Zoom meetings and through chats. I know many of you may be losing the motivation to study while staying at home. Create a schedule. Make a deal with yourself. Every time you open the refrigerator door you have to answer one study question. Make an Excel sheet with a schedule. Share it with your classmates and compete. Come up with some creative ways to stay engaged and learn. Help your technologically challenged instructors (like me!) make online learning more fun, engaging, and most importantly, effective. To the seniors, I know that this is not the way you anticipated leaving Cal Poly. You are not leaving Cal Poly. You are taking us with you. Graduating from our major is an incredible achievement. As you know, it is not an easy major. Think of the knowledge you have gained and the experiences you have weathered. We wanted to send you off with all the pomp and circumstance you deserve. And we still have get this if graduation is held at a later date. Until then, feel proud in graduating from a major that will give you an incredible career. Veterinary hospitals are still open and are considered essential. You are essential. We will all meet again in person and what stories we will have to tell. Until then, be safe, be happy and be resilient. I am so proud of all of you.
