SURPRISE SURPRISE It’s one thing to ski Sun Valley, Idaho under sunny blue skies in late Feb or March. It’s quite another to live through months of icy cold wintry weather. Which is the conclusion Vicente Ferrer arrived at after two years and headed home to the Desert.... Not just home to his folks, but home to MCC. To our delight Vicente has joined the Club not only as a Sports Center member but as part of the teaching team expanding the number of lesson hours available as Hazel and I are fully booked. With Vicente on board we’re looking at offering footwork fitness drilling among other fun but purposeful surprise events. Stay tuned.

CHANGING TIMES REQUIRE CORRESPONDING PROGRAM CHANGES Everyone is in the same boat: Covid-19 has changed how we conduct our lives. So, I want to share with all ASTA and ASJP students the restrictions we have to abide by and the difficulty we foresee in running the two programs as before, let alone how we could proceed with hybrid school days and the differential school periods that will entail. Everyone’s first concern is safety. To that end, access to MCC is being restricted ...to members only which requires a substantial change to what we can offer. Instead of the former format we will concentrate on One-0n-One time. What do we mean by that? In a word, individual lessons only. In our reformulated programs, each student working with Andy will take a minimum 3-4 hours/week/student of private lessons ASJP students 2-3 hours/week with Hazel plus Fitness & Agility training 2 3 days/week for a minimum 1.5+hours/session. Younger participants (ASJP) will have a shorter program that parallels their developmental needs. Secondly, participation means becoming a member of Monterey. Membership means a family membership which gives you, your folks and sibs not only access for privates to me and Hazel, but also to all the amenities of the Sports Center namely the gym, tennis courts, ball machine and pickleball courts whenever and as often as you want. We are hoping to bring in another pro to increase lesson availability. We have given a lot of thought on how to proceed under present conditions and recognize that some of you will be disappointed with our new direction. To those we apologize. HOW ASTA ALUMS KEEP THE HOME FIRES BURNING If there's one thing that makes me proud above all others, is how ASTA alums support and encourage those coming up behind them. I salute brothers Austin and Connor Rapp for their time, training support and encouragement of Diego as he navigated the challenges of choosing the right school and tennis program.... Thanks guys.
