AMEA has "adopted" a family for the Holiday Season with the organization Catarina's Club! The club's "Welcome Home Program" provides first and last month's rent to working families with children to help them move out of unsafe motel living and into a proper residence. AMEA donated household goods and a little something for the kids to make their Christmas cheerful! ... Thursday's massive We Give Thanks Distribution at the Honda Center was ably supported by AMEA members keeping the streets around the Honda Center safe. More than 7,000 cars passed through the eight lanes distributing food. #oceastrong #UnionStrong

Orange County Supervisor Doug Chaffee, the United Across Borders Foundation, Northgate Gonzalez Markets, and K&A Café worked hard Saturday to bring a sense of Thanksgiving normalcy to families who are struggling through the historic pandemic. The event volunteers included AMEA members, students, and community groups in a unifying effort to help. Hundreds of families were given a Thanksgiving Dinner that includes the fixings and a food box providing staples and non-perishables.

March 16, 2020, is a date Principal Librarian and AMEA member Tasneem Watts remembers well. It was the day statewide orders were issued to shut down operations because of the pandemic, said Watts. What happened next is something no other library system in California has been able to pull off so quickly. We pushed to have our staff declared essential workers, says Audrey Lujan, City Librarian. By March 23rd, we had our curbside pick-up up and running. Since then, mo...re than 10,000 pick-ups have been made of over 40,000 items. Other systems raced to catch-up with some offering curbside pick-up a full three-months later. What our public workers have is a passion to serve the Anaheim community and beyond, says Lujan. It’s our AMEA members, our workers, who keep coming up with innovative ways to keep the library relevant to the people it serves. AMEA has a new home! The union has moved from the old Center St. address to 508 N. Anaheim Blvd. It's a spacious office building with an upstairs area and a much larger assembly room for meetings and activities. AMEA President Mike Holmes says the price is right for the new lease and the larger space will make it easier for AMEA members to plan for the challenges ahead. OCEA staff member Jona Lee says an open house scheduled for July 30th is off due to Coronavirus concerns but the Board meeting on the same night is on. AMEA members also received a supply of masks, gloves, and sanitizers that are needed to keep everyone safe. Thank you, Anaheim workers for all you do for the community. Today, we visited OCEA/AMEA members at the City of Anaheim's Fleet Services facility and brought along some pizza. The 40-member team operates out of a ...47,000 square foot, 30-bay repair facility and is responsible for purchasing and maintaining all of the vehicles and motorized equipment used by the City of Anaheim. It's absolutely essential work requiring skill, professionalism, and dedication. It was great to see AMEA Board members David Pangle and Jeremy Huabrick. AMEA members and Traffic Control Assistants John Fordiani and Don Knight were keeping traffic moving safely during a food distribution in Anaheim, today. More than 1100 families were fed.

AMEA members are proud to participate in Youth in Government Day at Anaheim City Hall yesterday. The introduction to local government and the participation of more than a hundred local high school students is inspiring. Board members and Stewards gave up a Saturday for Leadership Training at AMEA's office in Anaheim. The turnout and participation were excellent. The workshop was geared toward recruiting and helping new hires undertand the "why" of a union. One of the crucial points - understanding that AMEA, or any union, should never be referred to by members as THE union. That way of thinking communicates a third party status. This is OUR union. Don't "third party" the union. We need OUR union healthy, strong, and ready to win! #oceastrong #unionstrong

AMEA members including German Perez in this 1952 Public Works van and Ruben Ibarra in the 1920 White work truck showed their community spirit taking part in today's 40th Annual Black History Parade in Anaheim. Anaheim public employees work hard to make Anaheim the great city that it is. The weather couldn't have been better for a parade. Afterwards, the marchers were pretty hungry but that was handled by the grill masters on the OCEA hot dog wagon. #oceastrong #unionstrong
