Today we had the honor of participating in a burial ceremony for an unidentified baby boy that was left abandoned at a recycling plant in San Jose late last year. Congratulations to EMT Louis Barone who is retiring from Santa Clara County after 23 years of service. He and his family bought a horse property and will be moving to Idaho to live the simple life.

Our hearts go out to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office for their terrible loss yesterday and AMR Santa Cruz who treated and transported the injured officers. RIP Sgt. Gutzwiller.

GMR Chief Operating Officer Ted Van Horne provides an update and overview on our overall operations response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the last few months, we have had a number of employees deploy across the United States to assist with the pandemic response. Our missions have included evacuating COVID-19 patients from the Grand Princess cruiseship in Oakland, 911 back fill in New Jersey, assisting with heavily impacted skilled nursing facilities in Monterey County, and just this week we deployed EMTs to Imperial County to assist with setting up a 125-bed field hospital. We wish them luck and hope they return home safe.

EMS Week 2020, May 17-23rd Today marks that start of EMS Week 2020. While this has been a challenging time for us all, we wanted to take a moment to thank all of the Santa Clara County EMTs, Paramedics, Mechanics, Schedulers, Vehicle Technicians, and support staff that have worked tirelessly over the past few months on the front lines of the pandemic response keeping our county up an running. Your hard work and dedication is an inspiration to us all.
