We did it! 9 months of hard work is over. Thanks to everybody for all the support, sweets, and letters you sent our way. We couldn't have done it without you! Saying goodbye to our time as a tight-knit team was hard, but bearable knowing we are all off to bigger and better things. We promise to continue our life of service and doing amazing work on our own paths. For the the final time, enjoy our last celebration video!
Our first wall is complete! After hauling 30 cubic yards of gravel up and down winding hill paths, unloading 40,000 pounds of concrete tiles, and digging until there's nothing left to dig, we've found that although it may not always be rainy, for Blue 6 it's definitely always sweaty in Seattle.
So it begins! Our project to construct a series of retaining walls at the Danny Woo Community Garden started with removal of weeds, transplanting plants that were in the way, excavating the old railroad tie wall, and lots and lots of digging.
Round 3 is over! The team is now off to Seattle, WA to work at the Danny Woo Community Garden in the Chinatown/International District. Until next time, check out all the work we did last round!
On our last day at Silverwood Lake we made sure to "leave our mark," say goodbye to the staff, and even picked up a few words of wisdom.
Blue 6 recently celebrated our 6 month team-iversary with a bottle of sparkling cider at the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve, which is part of the same CA state park district we're currently serving at. Cheers!
Blue 6 goes out on a state park barge to visit campsites that need their help around Silverwood Lake!
Last week blue 6 spent a sunny day painting. We took the barge out on the lake to a boat-in-site to paint both bathrooms and noses.
It's been three weeks since we've made it down to the high desert in Hesperia, California. What's been keeping us so quiet and busy you ask? Fire mitigation!
Silverwood Lake, our new project site!
What were we most excited about this week? Woodchipping!
We were all ready to turn in after a busy day at the park when Ashvin brought us together for a surprise Easter egg hunt, coming just in time to replenish our dwindling candy reserve sent to us by Mama and Papa Friskney. We feel so blessed this Spring to have such a wonderful team leader and team guardians sending us love. Happy Easter, everyone!
The team has settled into their new home at Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area. After a week of camping, we've all come to an agreement: headlamps are our new best friends!
