Please join us on Sat., Sept. 26th at 1 PM PDT via ZOOM in our second discussion of Remember, Recover, Reclaim Manilatown Heritage Foundation series, hosted by... Dr. Estella Habal, I-Hotel Original Defender, San Jose State University Professor Emerita, and author of the definitive book on the International Hotel Eviction, San Francisco's International Hotel: Mobilizing the Filipino American Community in the Anti-Eviction Movement. This series will remember our Filipino ancestors who labored, organized, worshipped, danced, lived and died in San Francisco’s Manilatown neighborhood. We will recover those stories and reclaim our heritage. In this second discussion, we will talk stories about the Movement and the Moment, from the moment of the anti-eviction battle to the movement for low-income housing in San Francisco, with Jeanette Lazam, former organizer as well as tenant at the International Hotel in the 1970s. We will also talk to Aryssa Alonzo, a young activist of the 2020s, how they organize, what moment inspires them, and to the movement of identities and Black Lives Matter. Register for this event via Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/remember-recover-reclaim-w-dr- We look forward to having you join us for this FREE Family-Friendly program. #ManiltownHeritageFoundation #InternationalHotel #IHotel #Remember #Reclaim #Recover #TheMovementandtheMoment #Organizers #Activists #blacklivesmatter #BLM Big props to the staff, board, and elder board for working hard and supporting this event - Salamat to Caroline Julia Cabading Oscar Peñaranda Carlos Zialcita Marielle Concejo Jibril Alvarez Chet Canlas Ddla Asun Carmencita Nerpiol Monteclaro Choy Tony Remington and Desu Sorro.

We invite everyone to support the DaangDokyu Streaming Cinema as we commemorate the 48th year since Ferdinand Marcos’ declared Martial Law in the Philippines. ...We will never forget the atrocities done by the Marcos family and his cronies to the Filipino people. We will never forget the conjugal dictatorship that plundered the country and amassed debts that we continue to pay until today. We will never forget the thousands of victims of human rights abuses under his regime, and we will never allow this family to hold power over us again. The Marcoses actively attempt to revise our dark history with Martial Law, and as artists and storytellers, it is our duty to make people remember and hold these fascists accountable. We will continue to speak the truth and we will never be silenced. On September 19 at 9 am, Daang Dokyu will be streaming five films about Martial Law that reveal and expose history and how its consequences continue to affect us. Register and stream for free here: daangdokyu.com/watchnow. Kiri Dalena’s socially engaged practice took a significant turn at the beginning of 2012 with ‘Tungkung Langit,’ a video work shot while accompanying relief ef...forts after a devastating hurricane hit a remote village in Iligan, Philippines. With the community’s encouragement, she found herself documenting two survivors, both young childrensiblings who had lost their family in the tragedy and were left to cope on their own In her most recent work, ‘Alunsina’ (2020), Kiri Dalena continues to explore both the possibilities and limits of engagement within a community that is facing trauma. Quoted from the text written by Cocoy Lumbao for the 11th Berlin Biennale’s guidebook. Watch Kiri Dalena’s latest film Alunsina (2020) at KW Institute for Contemporary Art and her earlier work Tungkung Langit (2012) at 11th Berlin Biennale c/o ExRotaprint. Berlin Biennale c/o ExRotaprint.
