Little moments like this make everything we do worth it. Molly (left) is one of those naturally neutral dogs that most other dogs are drawn to. Gigi (right) is with us for our longer Behavior Modification and off leash program. . . .... Gigi was adopted recently by an awesome couple who saw almost immediately how much she struggled with reactivity towards pretty much anything she dubbed exciting or interest worthy. Dogs have been especially difficult for her to navigate. Her general knowledge of how to appropriately interact with other animals was basically non existent aside from a squirrel or two she’s taken out. With lots of practice and time being around dogs like Molly, Gigi is figuring out that there’s nothing to worry about. It’s always amazing to see them finally relax enough for moments like this. I must say, winter sucks for training outside. Look at this..I’m in a hot pink heated coat, head thing and mask. I feel overwhelmed with all the layers... but that puppy. Oh she makes it worth it. They all make it worth it. Excellent clients like all of you reading this make it worth it.... The birthday wishes you all sent me today. Worth it. That head tilt though! Maggie the Great Dane is joining us for our off leash program. Her goofy puppy antics are a little more troublesome than normal simply because of her size - working on appropriate social interactions early on with giant breeds is exceptionally important. Since COVID has made its appearance in the world, I cut back in visits at clients homes. I have asked clients to meet me at a local park or Pet Food Express. That works great...most of the time. Yes, I have offered virtual session for puppies that can’t get out or clients that are unable to get out. Of course, not all cases will work the best on a virtual session. So I make exceptions for some pups. This little 10 week old pup was struggling to leave her home and go pottie...s outside. She had/has a pretty extreme fear of dogs. Her condo potty area is surrounded buy lots of other dogs, luckily all polite and behind a fence, but so many this little girl doesn’t want to step outside. She can’t seem to get a break to pee in peace!! My trainer radar was going off on our first virtual lesson. I could see all the upcoming reactivity issues or fear aggression with out intervention. So off to her home today with my trusted cavachons. So today I taught dad how to use food and her play drive to get comfortable around an appropriate (neutral dog). We went from full on flight, to warming up and checking out the little friends I brought with me. (Thank you Max & Abby. ) Our goal today was accomplished and next week we will work on the same thing. The Cavachons have been working with me on day train outings for 2 years plus now. I love that every Wednesday we get to go on adventures that are fun for them, like In-n-out today, also they help me with new clients assessments, playing the part of the neutral dog for dogs that need that and teaching people how to read dogs body language.
