Can anyone guess what I'm making

Thought I'd share this because it's so fascinating and the first time I've seen this happen in the 15yrs years I've been working with families. I noticed this on day 2 when baby was nursing. I thought maybe baby was reacting to mom's body wash or lotion. She had taken a shower right before nursing. Or maybe a reaction to the material of the breastfeeding pillow? It was just half of her face, a perfect line right down the middle. The next day it was noticeable on half of her b...ody! I snapped the first photo so parents can share it with the pediatrician. ALWAYS call the baby's pediatrician for anything and everything that may be of a concern! "Even the imagination of a baby’s body turning half red and half pale triggers a series of worrisome thoughts. The good news is that a temporary change in color is not troublesome; it’s just a Harlequin phenomenon!" Also known as unilateral erythema in a newborn. "Harlequin phenomenon is a rare, benign, and transient change in the color of one side of the body or body part, displaying erythema on one side and pallor on the other side. The change in color is only short-lived, persisting for 30 seconds to a maximum of 20 minutes. This change in color usually occurs between two to five days of age. A few cases have been reported to occur as late as three weeks of birth." Harlequin color change (HCC) is only seen in 10% of the healthy neonates" https://journal.medizzy.com/2019-2/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2988569/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4502618/

My new fave video I have to share! Note the baby is latching from the sniffing position. The baby is nose level with the nipple. Coming at this angle, it encourages the baby to look up to latch. When a baby latches from the sniffing position, they naturally take in more tissue from the underside of the breast. This helps prevent nipple pain!... Also note that the baby's body is in a straight line! You can see the baby's head, neck and chest straight up against mom's body. Imagine yourself eating a whole meal while your body is facing forward but your head is facing to the left, uncomfortable right? Mom has control of the nipple. She waits for a BIG WIDE MOUTH! By holding the nipple against the baby's upper lip and nose, she stimulates baby to open but waits for the wide mouth. All of these steps help set baby up for a nice deep latch! Remember, every latch doesn’t need to be perfect, but the latch should be deep, pain free AND sustaining (baby should keep suction and not slip right off). If you feel like you are unable to achieve a deep/pain free/ sustaining latch, let's set up an in home consult https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkpMobnxyHE
