Happy #internationalwomensday to all the brilliant, kindhearted, hilarious, brave, determined, powerful women I have known. You are more gifted than you know, and I hope you don’t hesitate to share those gifts with the world. Picture reposted from @emilymcdowell_

Happy new year to you all! Regardless of what transpired in 2018, know that you did your best. Tomorrow is a fresh start. But so is every other day, if you want it to be. Take good care of yourself Picture reposted from @femalecollective

My greatest intention for the work I do with clients is to empower them. Sometimes I give advice, but to be honest, I do so pretty sparingly. I don’t want my clients to feel dependent on me, and more importantly, I have full faith that they can come to good decisions themselves. Instead, I simply guide them and help them to remove the barriers to their own inner wisdom. Therapists aren’t the only ones who can empower people in these ways. There are friends and family members who can help us along. But sometimes, it’s nice to get a more objective opinion from a compassionate stranger. If you need help, I’m here. As the holiday season begins, I want to remind you that you are not Superwoman (or Superman, or any other fictional hero). You can do a lot, but you can’t do it all. Delegate. Voice your needs. Rest when you need to. There are people who would be overjoyed to help you. It’s easy to burn yourself out this time of year. Presents and parties are wonderful, but there’s so much more to life than that. Let go of the pressure you may be putting on yourself and allow this season to bring you joy, not stress.

Good news for those who struggle with chronic pain! I often recommend meditation for its mental and emotional benefits, but studies show that this practice can help reduce physical pain as well.

"Burnout often results from a misalignment of input and output; you get burnt out when you feel like you’re putting more into your work than you’re getting out of it. Sometimes this happens when a job isn’t rewarding, but more often than not it’s because you aren’t taking care of yourself."

Panic attacks share many of the same physical symptoms as other serious health issues. Learn to tell the difference:

Neuroscience is fascinating! Learn how gratitude affects your brain at the biological level, and how simply recognizing and naming negative emotions reduces their impact.
