10 PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF ALT WATER: 1). Reduce per-person freshwater use and broader community demands on public water supply. 2). Reduce negative impacts of wastewater to environmental health of local aquifers, waterways, and soil biology. ... 3). Reduce flows to and improve performance of centralized wastewater treatment plants and septic and on-site treatment systems. 4). Reduce household water bills and educate consumers about how water prices affect them and their community. 5). Help empower communities in water-stressed areas and reduce conflict created or exacerbated by water access and cleanliness. 6). Improve the safety of non-potable water use systems through public education about appropriate designs reducing potential for contact and/or ingestion. 7). Increase fundamental efficiency of irrigation systems through integrated management of multiple water sources. 8). Cultivate a closer personal connection to our necessary natural resource base. 9). Promote the ecological ethos of water stewardship as a cultural backbone of regenerative human ecology. 10). Shift the delicate balance of water scarcity issues facing us today which only increase in importance and complexity as human populations develop and grow.
