FIRE!" CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT! "BREAK THE WINDOW THERE IS A DOG INSIDE!" This all happened on February 21 before the Eldridge family returned home to find their house destroyed by fire and water. Their life was changed in a moment. Friends and neighbors stepped up to offer help, as did Assistance League of Saddleback Valley. Charlie and Vanessa Eldridge have a first grade daughter, Sophie, who attends a school serviced by Operation School Bell. Just by chance a s...hopping event was scheduled at Target on February 23. The entire family was invited to attend. Their dog, which survived the fire but was traumatized, was allowed to accompany the family as they shopped. Normally children who shop for new school clothing are given a budget of $100. In this case, more money was made available to Sophie for new clothes and school supplies. Each parent was also given money so they could purchase needed clothing and items. Volunteers who were interested in their story and offered compassion assisted them. The Eldridge family thanked the Assistance League of Saddleback Valley over and over for the opportunity offered them. As a chapter, we plan to follow through with this family and offer future assistance as they begin their journey back to their former lifestyle. Through our various philanthropies we plan to work side by side with the Eldridge family in the future. This was brought to our attention by a friend of one of our members who had attended the Christmas Tree Luncheon in 2019. She saw a positing on Facebook, notified the member and forwarded the link. The member responded to the need by contacting the family and the chairman of Operation School Bell. This is a good reminder, we all should be looking for opportunities to serve the needs in our community. Keep in mind our mission statement: Assistance League volunteers transforming the lives of children and adults through community programs.

In this moment our community needs us more than ever. Let’s help load up SCO’s Food Bank shelves this year...Their holidays are coming too! Try something new for your hours, while filling your soul. As your VP of Philanthropy, I am challenging all of you to do what you can right in your own neighborhood. I just held my own food drive on my street with some help from these ALSV neighbors and friends; Mary Lou Light, Allison & Gloria Kern, Cylene Fitzsimons, Kathie Kopkash, Joa...n Kreuzer, Linda Kemp and Renée Thomas. Together we collected 330 pounds of food! Let’s roll this out, supporting each other and our community. When you hold your drive, let me know and I will gladly bring you a bag of groceries. Let’s watch our numbers grow, in volunteers, in pounds of food, and in your hours under Community Connections, as we measure our impact on the community! Encouraging all of you, Marie Thomas

Attended the Assisteens fashion show fundraiser. Great event and something to enjoy for adults as well as teens. I won a beautiful succulent table setting - added some Easter decor and I’m set for spring.
