Black Lives Matter. This sentence is not to be disrespected by "all lives matter" comebacks. When you say this, you bypass the systemic racism Black people have been subjected to. You diminish the point, that Black lives have been marginalized since the founding of this country. You out yourself as a self-centered and entitled creature who cannot begin to understand that Black Lives Matter is not about you. In fact, it may come from a place of fear and anger, that your white...ness may be seen as "less than." It may be that your discomfort with the mere idea of being an outsider to a valued group is terrifying because you know deep down the truth-- that you uphold racist beliefs in your heart. That your whiteness is safety. That "all lives matter" is a desperate plea to ignore the icky hard work of de-brainwashing yourself from a racist society. So. None of that. Just don't. Personally, I know that this is not the time to sell stuff. This is a moment where I, as a small business owner, am donating to local bail funds. I am listening to Black voices and challenging myself to deeper thought around racism and to do more effective anti-racist action in my community. Because. Black Lives Matter. Here are a few resources to learn more and to support financially, as protest organizations require your funds to fight for justice. @blmlosangeles (Black Lives Matter LA) @blackvisionscollective (Black Visions) @mnfreedomfund (Minneapolis Freedom Fund) @nationalbailout (National Bail Out) @wp4bl (White People for Black Lives) Reposted from @neonaltar See more

Welcome to Neon Altar’s Tarot School. This is a monthly class held at A Love Bizarre, featuring teachers with a special skill or spread to share! Tarot School is intended for intermediate readers, who desire an expanded take on tarot, and extra practice reading for others. This month’s inaugural class will include a lesson and Q&A session with experienced teacher Laura Campuzano, on the intricacy of pulling a Yes/ No response from a tarot spread. After Laura’s teachings, ...we will follow with time to read for other students, and practically apply what you’ve learned. (Or you may offer a spread you’re more comfortable with.) The class wraps up with honest feedback, from reader to reader, and journal time. This event takes place on the private patio of A Love Bizarre, a queer-focused art gallery and home of Neon Altar, a modern metaphysical marketplace. Dress in warm layers; we’ll have a heater, covered meeting table, and beverages to keep you comfy. Birthdays = growing up. Growing up is painful, and embarrassing. (Not this photo though. This polaroid is gold.) If you live long enough, awkward teen years transform into nostalgia. Blunders and desires form seeds of the creature you are todayand are constantly becoming. So for A Love Bizarre’s 1 year anniversary THIS WEEK and TODAY as a living, breathing witch shop and art gallery, we’re looking back to where the story of A Love Bizarre, and Suzy and Nathan begins: t...eenhood. Prepare for time travel. We’re gonna share pictures and stories of our teenage selves, honoring the people we were then, and the rockstars we had crushes on. Crushes so hard, it was noted in yearbook senior quotes. Crushes so deep, it felt like you would DIE if you never got to fall in love with the singer of that punk band. Life-contorting, fetish-making, soul-destroying teenage crushes. Meet the first two: Beck (crush of Taurus girl @Suzy_Mae) and Trent Reznor (crush of Cancer boy @NathanRapportArt. Suzy: Beck pulled all my adolescent fantasies into one skinny, talented, laid-back physicality. An art-making musician boy who looked like a girl and half-sang weirdo poetry. He was from LA! He used a leaf blower at backyard shows! So random, so irreverent, such art school dropout cool. I wanted to be Beck, to get inside his brain, to make my guitar shoot out the songs he made. I may not have a Beck poster above my bed anymore but I’m still obsessedddd Nathan: Trent was not only the frontman of the band of my adolescence, he was also my first "art boy" crush. He was good with words, painfully unhappy, and embodied an androgyny and dark sex appeal I found quite drawn to in my goth youth. He looked like a boyish vampire, he was an animal onstage, and he often wore pantyhose. Sold. Fun fact: I may have written a piece of erotic fan fiction about this fella my freshman year of high school. #beckhansen #beck #trentreznor #nin #alovebizarre #crushes #valentinesday #highschoolcrush # @ A Love Bizarre
