Prayer for Good Friday . Almighty God, we beseech you graciously to behold this your family, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed and given into the hands of sinners, and to suffer death upon the Cross; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Collect for Palm Sunday: Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. . . #palmsunday #prayer #worship #kingjesus

What is Ash Wednesday? . Ash Wednesday is a day of repentance, when Christians confess their sins and profess their devotion to God. . Here ashes are placed on a worshiper's forehead in the shape of a cross. The ceremony is meant to show that a person belongs to Jesus Christ, and it also represents a person's grief and mourning for their sins the same sins that Christians believe Jesus Christ gave his life for when he died on the cross.... . Ash Wednesday is important because it marks the start of the Lenten period leading up to Easter, when Christians believe Jesus was resurrected. . The ashes symbolize both death and repentance. During this period, Christians show repentance and mourning for their sins, because they believe Christ died for them. . When the pastor applies the cross of ashes, they say to the worshiper: "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return. Repent and believe in the Gospel. . . #ashwednesday #cross #lent #repentance #devotion #sin #inward #discipline #mercy #preparation #glendale #anglican See more

Michael King was a pastor in Georgia. He wanted to explore his biblical roots, so he journeyed to Israel. He also scheduled a trip to Germany. He wanted to visit the Castle Church because he had been impressed and influenced by Martin Luther’s protest of the Catholic Church, due to their reluctance to translate the Bible into German so everyone could read it for themselves. Luther also protested many other inequities. After his challenge of the hierarchy, Luther had to f...lee into exile. But it was there and then that he translated the Bible into German. He became the father of the Reformation that launched a movement around the world in an attempt to correct deep strongholds on the Christian faith. But it set a more far reaching precedent of standing for justice. . . . Rev. Michael King was so impressed by his non-violent approach, that on his return, he changed his name to Martin Luther King. He also changes the name of his son from Michael King, Jr. to Martin Luther King, Jr. The rest is history. Something of a spirit of reformation and change got seeded in the hearts of this pastor and his young son, who would later co-lead Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta with his dad, and launch a global changing Civil Rights Movement. His I Have A Dream speech, delivered from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, is one of the most popular and often quoted speeches ever delivered! Today, we celebrate a national holiday in his honor. A pastor who fought for justice and equality, and paid for that message with his life! #Repost from Glenn Burris.

Advent, Day 25 // Merry Christmas // A Reading from Isaiah 52:7-10 . . How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, Your God reigns! .... . Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices; together they shout for joy. When the Lord returns to Zion, they will see it with their own eyes. Burst into songs of joy together, you ruins of Jerusalem, for the Lord has comforted his people, he has redeemed Jerusalem. The Lord will lay bare his holy arm in the sight of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God. . . #allsaintschurch #glendale #Merry Christmas See more

Advent, Day 24 // Prayer from Psalm 18:1-24, 46-49 . . I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. .... . I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies. The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me. The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me. . . In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears. The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry. Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it. He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet. He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind. He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him the dark rain clouds of the sky. . . He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the Lord was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. . . The Lord has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me. For I have kept the ways of the Lord; I am not guilty of turning from my God. All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees. I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin. The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. . . The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior! He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me, who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from a violent man you rescued me. Therefore I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name. . . #allsaintschurch #glendale #advent #2019 See more

Advent, Day 23 // Prayer from Psalm 19:1-6, 14 . . The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. It is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, like a champion r...ejoicing to run his course. It rises at one end of the heavens and makes its circuit to the other; nothing is deprived of its warmth. . . The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. . . May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer. . . #allsaintschurch #glendale #advent #2019 See more

Advent, Day 22 // Prayer from Psalm 46:1-6, 10-11. . . God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. .... . There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. . . He says, Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. . . The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. . . #allsaintschurch #glendale #advent #2019 See more
