Update, new home found! A horse I know needs to be rehomed. He's here in Herald, CA. He was in my program for a few months a few years ago. Hasn't been ridden much since then. He's a Rocky Mountain gelding, age 21. Very easy keeper. Barefoot this whole time. When I knew him he was forward like a lot of gaited horses are, but very very safe. He'd go all day. Rocking horse lope, I don't recall if he fox trotted or did a stepping pace but it was easy to sit. She of course wants... a good home for him. I think a beginner is OK of course working with a trainer. I'd recommend a 2 week to month long tune up done by a trainer unless you're experienced, just to be on the safe side. I found him and recommended purchase by his current owner who was a total novice at the time, and he was in my lesson program then. There doesn't seem to be any reason to suspect that after getting legged up he couldn't go back to being a safe arena and trail horse for anybody. The unmounted photos are from yesterday. His fluffy winter coat is much lighter than when he's slick. Mounted photo was in my arena with an intermediate student on him who took him out and rode him all over by himself. His owner has him priced at $600. I'll update his height when I get it but he's a stout big boy, we think 16 hh.

Your horse is not exercising himself as much as in the warmer months. When it’s cold and muddy and often when blanketed, horses do a lot more standing around. And of course if stalled, he’s not getting much movement. This means he might have nervous energy when you get him out to ride. He al...Continue reading
