Reduce exposure to: smoke, acrid air, dust, pollution, fragrances, diesel fumes, mold and other particles. Effective for poor air quality indoors or on airplanes. A porous, lightweight, washable shell holds and seals a disposable carbon filter. Mask folds to fit in a pocket. The adjustable ear loops allow for a personal fit and long wearing comfort, even with eye glasses, goggles or a helmet. Replace filter when breathing becomes difficult or odor comes through even after pressing nose wire under the eyes. How long a filter lasts depends upon your sensitivities and environment. You can talk and be heard while wearing these masks. If one filter doesn't reduce fragrance or smoke put one filter inside another.

Wildfire Smoke and Indoor Air Quality: What You Need to Know Wildfires pose serious risks to air quality, both indoors and outdoors. Exposure to smoke from wildfires, even if the fire itself is far away, can be harmful. Smoke from outdoors can enter homes and affect indoor air quality. Reducing indoor exposure to smoke during a wildfire is important for everyone’s health, especially for children, older adults, and people with heart or lung disease.... The important guidance below has been developed to guide actions that can help limit harmful exposures to wildfire smoke. If local officials advise people to stay indoors, taking these actions can further reduce smoke exposure: Keep windows and doors closed. Use fans and air conditioning to stay cool. Learn more about how to adjust HVAC systems and air conditioners to help keep smoke out. If you cannot stay cool at home, seek shelter elsewhere. Use a portable air cleaner and/or the highest possible efficiency HVAC filter that works in your home’s system to help reduce fine particles from the air. Avoid activities like burning candles or using fireplaces, which can create more fine particles indoors. Avoid strenuous activity during smoky times to reduce the amount of smoke inhaled. Create a clean room. Have a supply of N95 respirators (a tight-fitting respirator mask worn over the mouth and nose) to use to help reduce smoke exposure. Learn the proper way to use them. When the air quality improves, even temporarily, air out your home by opening windows or the fresh air intake on the HVAC system. REMEMBER: Conditions can change quickly, so anyone near a wildfire should always be prepared to evacuate if necessary. Following local news,or state air quality websites for up-to-date information can save lives. For more information about any of above items give us a call at 800-989-0111

*****Air Pollution Linked to Kidney Damage***** We know there is a long list of health problems caused by exposure to air pollution. From respiratory problems, to heart disease and certain types of cancer. Now scientists from the University of Michigan believe exposure to high levels of air pollution may also cause Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). The kidneys have many functions in the body. They regulate our volume of blood, they help to control our blood pressure, they fi...lter out waste, maintain the body’s chemical balance and play a part in red blood cell production. In short, they are vital to keep the body healthy and in balance. According to the study results, exposure to air pollution can upset that balance. Air pollution is absorbed into our blood stream, large quantities of blood then pass through the kidneys. So it’s logical that our kidneys will be one of the first organs to feel the effects of exposure to air pollution and eventually suffer the consequences. People with high blood pressure, obesity or heart disease are already at risk of developing CKD. If they also live in heavily polluted areas, the research team believes their chances of developing CKD is significantly higher. The team are calling for doctors to recognize this elevated risk and where possible take precautionary measures. You may not be able to avoid polluted areas completely, but you can take steps to reduce exposure to air pollution, such as wearing a mask and limiting the time spent outdoors when pollution levels are high. Our indoor environment however, is much easier to control. If you feel the quality of air inside your home could be improved, why not consider investing in an air cleaner. Our air cleaners are designed to suit all indoor spaces small and large. Austin Air Cleaners are equipped to deal with all indoor contaminants, from dust and pollen to gases and chemicals. To find the air cleaner that’s right for you, visit our products page here. And if you would like to read more on the study click below. https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article

. **** 5 Things to Know When Shopping for the Best Sensitive Skin Shampoo For people with sensitive skin, a good, reliable hair regimen begins with finding the right shampoo for you. To help you find the right product, we’ve put together a list of five things to know when shopping for the best sensitive skin shampoo.... 1. KNOW WHICH COMMON CHEMICAL IRRITANTS TO AVOID When it comes to choosing hair care products for sensitive skin, it helps if you know what your skin can and cannot tolerate. In other words, if your skin tends to react to potential allergens, you know what your triggers are and can avoid those types of ingredients. Familiarize yourself with common chemical irritants and always read the label before you buy. If you’re unsure what causes your skin to react, a dermatologist or allergist can help with patch testing. In general, it’s best to avoid these ingredients, which can irritate sensitive skin: Harsh surfactants and sulfates, such as cocamidopropyl betaine and sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) Formaldehyde or formaldehyde releasers, such as DMDM hydantoin, imidazolidinyl urea, and quaternium 15 Parabens, such as methylparaben and propylparaben Certain preservatives, such as methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) and methylisothiazolinone (MIT/MI) 2. FRAGRANCE-FREE IS NOT ALWAYS FREE OF FRAGRANCE Fragrances are the primary cause of skin allergies and we recommend avoiding them in your hair care. Don’t be fooled by false claims a product may be labeled unscented, fragrance-free or scent-free, yet may still contain plant extracts or essential oils that may be irritating to those with fragrance allergies or sensitive skin. If you are uncertain about the ingredients listed on the label, the use of fragrance is easily determined by removing the cap and taking the sniff test. 3. BEWARE OF HYPOALLERGENIC SHAMPOO CLAIMS Many shampoos claim to be hypoallergenic, but this term can be misleading. Hypoallergenic implies that a product causes fewer allergic reactions than other products but because there are no U.S. government standards to regulate the use of the term, companies can label nearly anything hypoallergenic. Unfortunately, this may confuse consumers, who have to determine for themselves whether the product is safe to use. 4. PAY ATTENTION TO A SHAMPOO’S PH LEVELS When looking for shampoos for sensitive skin, check that a product has a balanced pH, or is non-alkaline, which is most compatible with skin and hair and the least drying. 5. LOOK FOR MILD AND GENTLE FORMULAS Generally, products that have simple formulas without added chemical irritants are best for reducing the chance of allergic reactions. If you do your research before you buy and establish guidelines for yourself, your routine hair products (including shampoo, hair conditioner, hair spray, and hair gel) will help keep your hair and scalp healthy and happy. *****This article was published by Pharmaceutical Specialties, Inc. .
