In honor of International Women's Day we pay tribute to Rosalie Fish & Jordan Marie Daniel, who run for missing and murdered Indigenous women. Indigenous women throughout America & Canada are murdered at a rate 10x's higher than other ethnicities. Many, many more vanish at astounding rates. This violence happens in cities as well as on reservations and it is believed the majority of murders are committed by non-native people.... Now this sounds interesting!!!! Do you get to study anything fun for continued education in your field?
One of the pieces of my work I love best is learning about cultures other than my own. Today I am working on a ceremony for a Shoshone woman who was also a jewelry maker. Her specialty was bold Native American statement necklaces that represented her ancestry, as well as her fiery personality. She was a gifted craftswoman and Master Seamstress. So excited I get to wear my chunky amethyst crystal necklace for her service!... I hope to do her proper justice.
