The #challengeaccepted originated in order to raise awareness about the high rates of femicide in Turkey. "Turkish people wake up every day to see a black and white photo of a woman who has been murdered on their Instagram feed, on their newspapers, on their TV screens. The photo challenge started as a way for women to raise their voice. To stand in solidarity with the women we have lost. I stand w trans women. BLACK LIVES MATTER. I can’t stop crying. I can’t stop watching the news. I can’t stop heartbreak. I CAN breath. I CAN stop sitting still. I CAN call my senators. I can sign petitions like the Color of Change and Justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, & sadly so many others. I can march and walk and protest and run in the name of justice. I can donate. I can contribute to a bail fund. I can support the national police accountability project. I can read and le...arn and educate myself, my family, and my friends. I can be an acting ally. I can accept my part. I can be open and willing to being challenged, pushed, and ultimately better. I can have more conversations and use information in actionable ways. I can pray. It’s hard to know what to say. Admittedly, sometimes fear of saying the wrong thing or offending someone holds me back from saying anything at all. But this is not okay. I am fighting the feelings of helplessness that don’t even begin to shed a light on the years of oppression black people have endured. Key word: PEOPLE. WE ARE ALL HUMAN PEOPLE. This HAS to be the change. Politics aside, this is HUMAN rights we’re talking about. I’ll never know the exact right words, but I will say one last thing: I find a glimmer of hope in the (peaceful) protests and that something about this time is different. Hopefully that’s true. #june2 #blackoutday2020 #blackouttuesday See more
