Air quality alert from Alameda County: The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has extended an air quality alert through Friday, September 11. Some parts o...f Alameda County have Unhealthy or Very Unhealthy air. When air quality is Very Unhealthy, everyone, especially children, older adults and those w/ breathing or heart issues, should stay indoors with windows and doors closed. Go to http://www.baaqmd.gov/ for info, and http://www.acphd.org/air-quality.aspx for tips. To reduce smoke exposure during COVID-19 Shelter-In-Place, consider creating a clean room in the home: https://www.epa.gov//create-clean-room-protect-indoor-air-. The best way to protect from COVID-19 and poor air quality is to stay indoors. Cloth and surgical masks do not protect from smoke, but do protect from COVID-19. N95 masks should only be used by those who do not have the option to stay indoors. The current advisory may be extended. Current Air Quality can be found at: https://www.airnow.gov/ and https://www.baaqmd.gov. Health Information can be found at our Public Health page at: http://www.acphd.org/air-quality.aspx. See Frequently Asked Questions about Smoke and Your Health, including COVID-19 Protection, here: http://www.acphd.org//wildfire-smoke-and-your-health-faqs-. 12:30 pm update: The AQI is now in the unhealthy range, which means all individuals should limit prolonged or vigorous outdoor activity and sensitive individual...s should avoid prolonged or vigorous outdoor activity. Due to wildfires in the region, the Air Quality Index for our area is now reaching unhealthy levels for sensitive groups. As a reminder, that means that sensitive individuals should reduce vigorous exercise outside. We have more information on our website at http://www.alamedaunified.org/aqi.
