Black text inside a blue bubble with quote marks that reads: "I dream of the day there are no "Special Classes" and ALL students simply have "classes" and "services". Then we won't need the term "Full Inclusion" anymore. It will just be "school" for everyone. - Sandra Assimotos McElwee"

Happy Friday! These are images of Heiko, Tsion, and Jose, trying to not mix up two separate puzzles, while Mr. Duffy tries to inconspicuously photo-bomb them.

"These revelations, about presuming competence, human dignity, and the least dangerous assumptionthey don’t apply only to kids who are secret geniuses. They apply to everyone. They are the most important for the kids who really do have intellectual disabilities, who really can’t read or use full sentences and who really do need extensive support. The people who came up with these terms came up with them for a population where there is very little doubt that significant disability is a factor. These terms don’t mean assume they aren’t actually disabled. These terms mean assume they are a person, and remember what you don’t know."

"Like you would with someone’s gender pronouns, follow the lead of the disabled person and his/her/their preferences. However, there is another growing trend of euphemismswords like handicapable or differently-abled that have often been created, adopted and promoted by non-disabled people. These euphemisms are doing more harm than good because they reinforce the negative stereotype that disability should be feared. This intentional avoidance of the term disability sends the message that there’s something inherently negative or bad about having a disability. And disabled people are tired of non-disabled people telling us what they think is best for us."
