"The Mand" - One of the first forms of communication that a child develops is their ability to request their favorite things (aka a 'mand'). This usually looks like a child reaching out, and saying word approximations like "mama" or "dada" when they want to be held, fed, or played with. Why is manding important? Imagine a child that wants to play, or wants a toy that is out of reach (like in the picture), or wants to cuddle with mom or dad, but doesn't know how to request th...ose things. Also imagine if a child can't express if they are feeling anxious, upset, or are in pain. When a child can't express themselves it leads to frustration and missed learning opportunities. That is why 'manding' is one of the first things we work on when families come to us with concerns about language delays. Manding doesn't have to be a vocal request either! We use PECS, ASL, and a variety of other methods to help our kids learn how to get their needs met. Want to learn more? Send us a message! #verbalbehavior

July 14, 2020 San Diego Unified School District put out a statement on July 13th that all students will attend online courses at the start of the 2020-21 academic year. As a result, we have had many families wanting to learn more about having behavioral supports at their homes to help their child get the most out of their online classes. If your child typically receives behavioral supports at their school, and you are interested in at-home services for the fall, please feel... free to contact us for more information. AIM will continue to provide high-quality services to our families with in-home sessions. We have outlined detailed safety precautions to ensure that both our families and staff stay safe. We are eager to help families have a productive school year with the new online model. Stay safe and healthy!
