Experience Architecture: Resilience With all the uncertainty as of late, we are very excited to share that the 2020 AIA Central Valley Experience Architecture e...vent will be moving forward this Fall, October 6-11, 2020, as scheduled!! Now in our 9th year, this year’s events and activities will focus on Resilience. Our Sponsorship and Event Guide image includes the historic PG&E power station, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, that is currently undergoing a transformation to become the new home of the Sacramento Discovery Science Center. The project represents a persistence to the save what we can of the past, while bringing to life a new building for the future. We plan to do the same with Experience Architecture this yearadapting our programs and activities to a virtual format to keep our participants safewhile continuing to elevate architectural awareness to the general public, design enthusiasts, students, architects and designers, and to celebrate how architecture impacts our community and shapes our region. Events in the works include our 10th annual Architectura Obscura Photography Competition; virtual Design|Access through the lens tours featuring new project videos released throughout the week; a Bite of Design online panel discussion focusing on the future of restaurants; an inspirational Transforming How We Build Session with architecture firm Leddy Maytum Stacy; an informative Preservation Sacramento presentation on the R Street corridor (with a site visit map for participants to explore socially-distanced on their own); and an on-line Kid’s Draw architecture event, featuring Acting State Architect Ida Clair, AIAjust to name a few!
