For this holiday season the AGIA Values Committee selected two local organizations that give back to children. Our AZ Values Committee members chose Arizona Helping Hands to support their 22nd Annual Holiday Toy Drive. Arizona Helping Hands has made the holidays joyful for children throughout the state since 1998. Through our donations we raised $420, which will benefit multiple kiddos this season throughout Arizona to help purchase two new toys and a new book to a child in f...oster care! Like last year, our California office supported CASA of Santa Barbara by giving local children in the CASA program Christmas gifts for the holidays. We raised $660 which went towards Christmas gifts to 4 local boys in the Santa Barbara area. All four of the boys (ages 16, 5 and two 1-year olds) were recently taken into foster care and were only recently assigned a volunteer so giving them the spirit of Christmas means so much right now! A tradition for us at AGIA is to support our local community with food donations for the Thanksgiving holiday. For our Thanksgiving CALM fundraiser, we raised $1,560 ($780 from associates & the full match by AGIA). Ten families each received 2 bags of groceries, plus a ham or turkey, and several other essential items (too big for the bags), as well as a $65 Smart & Final gift card for other necessities.... AGIA is proud of our continued partnership with Girls Inc. of Carpinteria. We were looking forward to hosting a summer extern this year as part of their Eureka! Program. Unfortunately, COVID-19 prevented that from happening, but it didn’t stop two of our AGIA Leaders from helping out! Marina Merlo, Senior Client Marketing Manager, and Deena Portell, Client Marketing Manager, were guest speakers for Girls Inc.’s Externship Training Camp. On June 29, they participated via Zoom ...and spoke to the girls on the importance of time management and shared their experiences about their first jobs and career paths. The Eureka! Program is a five-year college bound program that breaks gender stereotypes through encouraging girls to confront messages that discourage them from actively participating in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and sports. The Eureka! Externship is an experiential learning opportunity where girls are paired with a professional in the community, and focuses on career exploration, workplace skills and mentorship. Both Marina and Deena have been wonderful mentors to past externs over the last few summers, so we appreciate their continued energy, enthusiasm and time in supporting Girls Inc. and the Eureka! Program. Our last two externs, Diana and Rudy, graduated from high school this year and both are headed to Santa Barbara City College. Thank you, Marina and Deena, for making a difference!
