It wasn't until 1984 that President Ronald Regan signed the bill that established the 3rd Monday of every January as the Martin Luther King Jr. National Holiday. The first national King Holiday was obse...rved, January 20, 1986 by 17 states. It wasn't until 1999 that all 50 states recognized the day. This image at the Lincoln Memorial was photographed August 28, 1963 by James K. Atherton during one of Dr. King's public speeches, the March on Washington. President Lincoln led the United States through its Civil War - its bloodiest war and perhaps its greatest moral, constitutional, and political crisis. In doing so, he preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the federal government, and modernized the economy.

DEADLINE TO APPLY: June 30, 2017 The #GIRLBOSS Foundation awards one grant biannually to female entrepreneurs pursuing creative endeavors in the worlds of design, fashion, music, and the arts.
