USCIS fee increases may significantly lower the number of citizenship applications. USCIS will increase many fees beginning October 2, 2020. Among those increases is the fee for citizenship applications, which will increase from $640 to $1170. Because the difference in fees is so stark, this will likely impact many eligible immigrants’ financial ability to go through with the naturalization process. Though the increases are linked to an agency budget deficit, immigrant advocates believe the fees are also intended to decrease immigration and stop some immigrants from being able to vote. https://www.immigration-paralegals.com/

California will challenge current DACA restrictions. In June, the Supreme Court upheld the DACA program but left open the possibility that the Trump administration could attempt to end the program again. Currently, the Trump administration is not accepting new DACA applicants and is limiting renewals to one year periods. On Tuesday, California Attorney General Becerra announced that the state would be challenging these restrictions in court. https://www.immigration-paralegals.com/

Students on F-1 visas doing OPT must enter employer information in the system. On August 18, USCIS published a reminder for those on F-1 visas doing post-completion Optional Practical Training (OPT) to enter their employer information into the SEVIS system. Designated School Officials (DSOs) must enter the information as well. If the information is not entered into the system, it could lead to the student exceeding employment limits or otherwise improperly complying with requirements, which could lead to a loss of status. https://www.immigration-paralegals.com/
